    DWC Bubbler System

    Hi Guys,

    I have built my own DWC Bubbler system with 4 net pots ready for transplanting my need seedlings into (Chilli, Basil to name but 2) but do you keep these in the system until fully grown or do you need to transplant them at a later date into a massive pot, maybe a stupid question but just wanting to know as it would be a lot less hassle to just keep them in the DWC until ready to harvest??

              Hydroponics has never interested me really, so that'll be why I've never heard of them I actually like soil

                So far I have 6 replies and not 1 person has answered the question I posted. Firstly as I said I built it myself in relation to the dear versions out there so hence have no instructions for the care of plants and what to do with them when grown some what??

                Please guys im looking for some sensible answers!!

                    Without being pernickety - why did you build something if you didn't know how to use it?

                      Patience, dear boy! You posted the question at lunchtime today, and it's only just time for tea and cake!

                      Asking a question on the Vine is like asking a couple of dotty but extremely clever old relatives - they'll bicker between themselves, disagree, talk about everything else first, won't be rushed, and may be grumpy, and might need nudging back in the right direction again; but you will get exactly the answer you need eventually!

                      That said, I don't know very much about hydroponic growing, but thought that BB's video of how to make one was most instructive. Live and learn, eh, all of us.

                        Looking at it from a purely logical point of view, I would say that there's no reason to move the plants on if you don't want to, but you'll have to change the feeding regime a bit to allow for fruiting - whether they're in soil or soil-less they will want potash for fruiting, plus a bit of nitrogen and magnesium. I don't know if they'll suffer from lack of root space in the same way that a plant which is kept in a small pot would, because presumably the roots can grow out of the bottom of the net-pot?

                        That's just me thinking aloud though, so to speak, because I have no experience with it at all.

                          As the others have said, most of us grow in soil and / or compost. I certainly know very little about hydroponics.

                          Might I suggest you do a google search for the information you want?

                            Me neither (it doesn't appeal, not even as an experiment), but coincidentally we were on the industrial estate by Strawberry Fayre and the windymill today, and there's a hydroponics outfit up there.

                              I'm just goggling about DWC cos I've never heard of it.

                              "the only way you can top up/pH adjust/test nutrients etc is to lift the whole plant up and out of the bucket. This sometimes proves difficult and hazardous to your plants when they are at full size."

                              "If the air pump fails, your plants will die"

                              Here we go: "Transplant a rooted cutting into the net pot ... the plant will need hand watering until its roots grow down into your nutrients"

                              There's no mention of transplanting or potting on the plant. I assume you leave it in there permanently then
