  • No sleep tonight...

Looks like the farmer has taken the calves from their mothers in the field next to our house...quick trip to the slaughterhouse

Mothers crying out like mad...lasted 3 days and nights last year.
    Poor things.

Veggie supper for the next couple of days methinks!

Been there, done that. Was told they forget after a day or so. I believe people were told that about Jewish mothers in the pogroms.

i always hated that part of farming, to go through a whole pregnancy and birth mother it, then it get taken away a day or so later ..............they may 'only' be cows, but they still have feelings

Well I am Human and I don't have none
The greatness comes not when things go always good for you,but the greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take, some knocks, some disappointments;because only if youv'e been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.

well i currently have a foster bun with 7, 4 weeks old babies and shes always trying to escape,

on a serious note its not a nice experience they do have feelings, was bad enough when i did young farmers and we used to show them and at the end when they were brought back to the school the calfs used to go to the slaughter house, very hard to explain to kids what happens to animal they have grown close to

10 cows...all night. One of them got a sore throat now.

I suppose the 'up' thing of all this is that the calves have been with their mothers since they were born in the spring and their father too. ( he was whisked away whilst the deed was done)

I couldn't bear that Nicos, that's one of the reasons I don't eat meat, I think it's arrogant of us to think only we have feelings. Remind me never to move to live next to a farm!
