    Rather miffed....

    ... that it is raining!

    Not because my plants don't need it - they do!

    But rather because I put the sprinkler on yesterday evening for about 40 minutes as everything was looking a bit dry, and I had put new seedlings out so decided that I would water them...

    And of course it has absolutely p*ssed it down since about midnight and our lawn has already flooded

    Please can someone arrange for it to rain before I put my (not very oft used) sprinkler on?!?

    always the way here too!I was late getting my daughter to a party at the w/e as i wanted to quickly water in some seeds~1/2 way into the party the skys opened!!what do you want to bet if i hadnt watered it'd have stayed dry!?

      Did you check the forecast?, I remember my nana always had seaweed hanging up outside, for a really local forecast!!

      I refuse to water with a sprinkler as I'm on a meter, so if it isn't a life or death situation, they wait for it. Last year a lot of my salads bolted while waiting.
      I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

        Generally I don't use the sprinkler at all, I just fill up the watering can from one of the water butts... but they are running low, and I had 14sq m to water and it would have taken me ages to ferry the can back and forth from the butt for enough to water the bed.

        The sprinkler is the cheat, as it will water all 4 of my 14sq m beds at once, but I hardly ever use it.

        The forecast was for dry and cloudy, but we're right on the coast, so the weather changes ridiculously fast....

            go out and wash the windows or the car, then you are guaranteed rain!!

            We not had rain for days and days, so i have to get the hose out, we on a meter too, but so what my veggies are more important ha ha !!

                  See now there are all sorts of folk lores about weather, seaweed is shrivelled in dry weather, but swells when there is dampness in the air. Pines cones are another good indicator, when they are open, its a fair sign its going to be dry, and when they close we are likely to have rain. I would recommend most old methods over the met office, they can tell you exactly what has just happened, but are a poor indicator for localised weather conditions.
