Life gets in the way!

I understand where you are coming from I used to work very long hours and had a plot which I really didn’t have time for I was very lucky cause I had friends and family which where willing to help in the short term eventually I changed jobs to a less demanding one ad things got a lot better remember we work to live not live to work .

Welcome back JanieB. I had wondered where you had vanished to. glad to see you are okay and that it was the new job that left you too busy to join us here.

Good luck with getting the lottie back up and running, I am sure you will manage it. That seems a bit rotten to take your greenhouse frame away without asking you about it first - was it bent or damaged or something (though that still doesn't excuse it as far as I can see).

Point out to the secretary that you have had a few VERY busy months, that your greenhouse frame was worth money and if they have removed it without notice BEFORE your right to the allotment was actually withdrawn, this is theft. Ask for a couple of weeks (and/or help from other members) and see what happens.
You can't lose anything by trying. I would recommend being a nice as is possible, while still getting your point across. If politeness doesn't work, it is unlikely anything else would have been more effective, and you have the satisfaction of knowing YOU behaved properly. Just a suggestion, but has to be worth a try.

I took over a plot with an appalling, fallen in, jerry built, corrugated fibreglass "greenhouse". As it's a long way from the path that vehicles can navigate, it's really difficult to remove the crap that was left. So I find it amazing that my expensive aluminium greenhouse frame has been removed but I have to dispose of the rubbish that the previous plot holder left.

Tried all that. I got the comment that she had just lost her husband and didn't need all this hassle. I pointed out that I had also lost mine and didn't need it either.

I know the difference is that she has not been taken to court to keep a roof over her head and I have.

second, tell her you will give the lottie as much time as you are able to get it back to a condition that is acceptable and do just that - chip away, a bit at a time - cover as much as you can to make it look better and take your time.

You will feel better, you get to keep your lottie and all is peace.

I do certainly agree with our Hils above that they cannot remove your green-house (even if it has no glass!) - that is theft, no two ways about it!

Thanks. You've made me cry. I'm actually at home when I could be sorting out the lottie. My biggest problem is that I can't start the strimmer 'cos the instructions don't agree with the machine I've got. AND I don't know where to rent a rotovator from.

hi,sorry to hear all that,seems so unfair how different lotties have totally different rules(or at least translations of the same rules!?)our field secretary seems to not give a flying monkey how bad a state plots get!(we have 2 plots both surrounded by people who seem to have no intention of ever clearing or growing~when i mentioned to secretary he seemed totally unbothered~guess we'll just have to put up with the 7yrs seed!)BTW that wasn't said to make you feel bad,sounds like you a million miles from them in that you do want to get back on top of it!is there anyone (or lots of ones!)you could ask round for a picnic/lottie party?Not sure about you but our friends are always happy to share our harvest & I know if we ever needed a bit of help they'd be more than happy~almost like sharing a slice of the gratification of growing your own~even if you do only let them do the digging!!
As regards the greenhouse frame~I'm totally with other folk in that to take anything from your lottie without your permission is theft!dont know how lucky you'd be but i'd find out how much they cost new & say you want to be re-imbursed;even if it looked like junk I thought that was supposed to be the whole philosophy of allotmenting~to make use of old bits & pieces?!(not saying your greenhouse was old junk!)

If you have mitigating circumstances an allotment committee would have to be very harsh to boot you off.

The weekends not over yet anyway! Get down there and spend a full day with the emphasis on tidying up rather than planting. Have a word with someone in authority (it needn't be the Secretary) and ask for a realistic extention of maybe a month to whip it into shape. Explain that circumstances have changed now and you will be able to devote adequate time to it.

Be prepared to pay someone to strim the plot and rotavate it if required. Any tool hire shop will hire a rotavator.

You need to show you are prepared to fight for your plot!

If you'd lived a bit closer I would have strimmed it for you for nowt!
