  • Stop me if you've heard this one before...

I went into the nursery to get one packet of cosmos seeds and some tool hanger thingies; and came out with what I wanted and another 11 packets of seeds.

It's not like i haven't already got enough now is it???

I found one thing out this weekend, my OH kept saying he didn't want celeriac until Jamie Bloomin' Oliver cooked it and I found out it was because he thought I was talking about Fennel [as they both used to come in the vege box]; so at least I am now allowed to grow celeriac...but that only explains one extra packet of seeds.

Now have to go and hide them all and pretend I had them all the while.

Anyway - on another note; I am doing my Photography A Level [title; Links and Connections] and I am going to submit some medium format colour film images taken on my holga camera - all of plants/flowers/veg that I have grown from seed. I have attached the first one [scanned in so not sure of the size].

The great thing about the Holga is that the centre is in focus, and everything else is blurred and distorted; I love it. I've already taken poppies [to be scanned later this week] and I need to take another couple of films this week; but I am really pleased with this first one.

I'd be interested in your thoughts on the first one attached; I like to include feedback and comments so that I can improve - but note this technique is supposed to have blurry edges!!! It's as far away from high end digital SLR billion mega pixel style as it can be - without going totally pinhole.

I love it! The composition and colours are wonderful. If you don't mind me asking, what film is that? (I have the same problem with film as I have with seeds - love it too much!)

I really want a holga - maybe this Christmas Santa'll actually listen to me

Film; really old Fuji REALA 120 donated by my tutor - the date was several years ago [the old ones are the best - eh?].

I bought mine on ebay for about £5; from Hong Kong. It came in about a fortnight. Brilliant camera.

        Hi,

Love the picture! I've not tried holga before, but did make a pinhole camera when I was at college. That created some great images.

As for seeds; I have so many that I too have to hide any new ones that I buy. Luckily if I buy them online I can get them delivered to work, which for me makes them easier to sneak in!

Oooh, if they're that cheap on ebay these days, I may have to treat myself...

Know what you mean about old film - I've a fridge-full of out of date stuff - some of which is discontinued so I'm loathe to use, but it'll just become unuseable if I leave it too long...

I've always been bad for having my cake and wanting to eat it too

I had to give up pinhole camera making; it was getting obsessive. I started saving anything and everything and painting it black. I now have a pinhole attachment for my Nikon; I took it to Amsterdam and didn't take any other lenses a few weekends ago; and got some really lovely images. Most on 3 or 30 second exposures; and really atmospheric.

Arachne; i am going to buy a job lot of out of date film soon and make myself use it in the Holga; I think out of date film gives better atmosphere and some really great colour effects. That was only the 2nd film through my Holga so I was very pleased indeed. i have to say thanks to my tutor; I don't think I would have actually bought the colour film, I would have stuck to B&W, so I think a thank you pressie is due as soon as the course is over this year.

            Here's to old style photography!

                  Ooh - thanks.

I have scanned the poppies; but you know what college technicians are like...
Don't turn that computer off, I'm just saving my scans'
*goes to fetch bag from other room*
'AARGH - what happened? The computer is off'
Oh, we thought you were printing - that's what usually happens. We logged the computer off'
So, when I said, don't turn it off I was saving stuff, what did you think I meant?
Well, technically, you should have been gone 5 minutes ago and we are supposed to lock up right now...
*swears under breath like a trooper at jobsworth technicians...*

I'll post them on friday; and see what you think. It's nice to have good comments so far; so thanks for that.

That is a lovely picture. The effect is great. Are holga cameras easy to use?
(got me thinking about 'different' wedding photos)

                        Hi
Dead easy to use; not so easy to get the film developed as it takes 120 [which is medium format s bigger than your average film]. Plus you only get 12 or 16 images per film. I'm quite lucky as I can develop B&W at college or at home at a push - and there is a guy in Nottingham who develops colour and will print a contact sheet for £9. You have to be quite choosy about what images you take at that price!

And yes, wedding photos would be great with a Holga; esp in B&W.

Thanks for the comment - I love the effect as well

This is a picture of the blossom on one of my apple trees.

I opened up the appature so as to get the centre in focus and everything else running out of focus using the short depth of field.
