In twenty-five years of living in Devon I have heard the cuckoo maybe four times.Living in County Cork in Ireland they would send you mad with their cuckooing all Spring!!Comment

Don't say that! cos you've got to get your wheat in before the cuckoo...normally about the 17th April. we have some long straw wheat for corn dollies that we are growing this year.Comment

Not heard a cuckoo - but when my son and I went to shops yesterday a male pheasant was strutting along our road! Looking somewhat lonely and lost.
OK - we're cheek by jowl with a stretch of open field/downland but in the 10 years we've lived here this is one of the most unusual spots - the other being the sight of a heron!Comment

The original 'spotee' of the cuckooing is in France, its probably still quite early for most places in the UK. We get ours about the third week in April.
