    Hi and Help from an utter noob!

    Hi

    I am Sarah, I live in North Lincs, just about to move in with my boyfriend who has a small holding where he has poultry (chicks, Ducks, turkeys and Emus!)
    I am not only new to growing veg but to gardening in general so my questions might be extra stupid :P Really striving for a healthy sustainable kinda life with the farm (we are also wind/solar powered etc) so growing veg to feed us and my grumpy teen would be great, I tried last year at home and failed. This year has been a lot more successful, in tubs I currently have:

    Potatoes - These seem to be doing really well and have just flowered, but possibly a bit crowded? :S

    Onions – looking good (I think) not sure when I am meant to harvest them?

    Courgettes – They flowered! And now look a bit erm unwell ..Did I miss the harvest?

    Also not long ago planted some lettuces, broad beans, peas and possibly some more I can’t remember, at this point am not sure if they are working or are just weeds To scared to weed in case they are in fact Veg!

    Also quick question, in my current house we have a beautiful young pear tree that my ex planted about 5 years ago we have had two years’ worth of fruit now and I am very sad to be leaving it, been advised against digging it up but is it possible to take a ‘bit’ and replant to grow another?

    Hi, no time to see your photos, I must do some work.

          The Emus are fantastic, I love them so much, we have two adult ones and two baby ones at the moment, they are both very used to me now and let me stroke them, the male adult was even letting me get bits of grass of his face the other day without even a flinch which was lovely (as they are very skittish animals), but they are very amusing, when then run it looks like they have left the head behind, the young ones are very clumsy and for some reason (I am yet to learn why) do some very odd dance types moves, had me in stitches the first time I saw them do it.

              Hmmm got it working from Flickr! This BamBam the adult male, think he was yawning at me whilst I was photographing him, he also had a good peck of my lens lol will get some of the babies up soon

                  I would dig up your Pear Tree, you are going to loose it if you dont so may as well try. Try and dig around the tree to keep roots encased in as much soil as you can to minimise damage and it should work. Not tried it with a fruit Tree but have done this twice to the same holly bush and it has survived both times.

                  Be careful when you move it because it will be heavy and you will be left with a hole to file.

                        I've always thought they look a bit prehistoric as well probably because they're nothing like any other animal or bird you see here in the UK.

                              Hi and welcome to the forum.

                              We (myself and KittyColdNose) are relatively new to the forum,but it looks like you have peas and beans coming up ok, your spuds look just like ours, and your onions might be ready if they have fallen over, give em a good soak.

                              Regarding the pear tree: if you are selling your old house and the pear tree was either named or photographed in the schedule, it would be against the law in Scotland anyway to remove it as it is a permanent fixture. If this doesn't apply in England, you would be better taking the whole tree
