  • Wisley, Wow!

I went to Wisley today for the first time. Wow as the kids would say it blew me away. Huge amount of colour and wonderful planting. Came home with loads of ideas for my garden, which will only work if I had 6ft wide flower beds

The glasshouse was stunning with wonderful tropical plants. Didnt find much veggie stuff though. Mind you didnt quite get round all of it as the weather was, as usual, a bit iffy.

Only thing that didnt please was the price of the food! Dear God and little duckies it's expensive Two hot dogs two bottles of water and a couple of packs of crisps - £13!!!! Ok they were posh sausages but eeeek!

The very wierd thing is that it was Mr H idea to go. He also said "lets go look in the plant shop and see what you would like" Many of you do not realise how very very out of character this is. He also keeps buying plants for the pottager, will be no room for veg in there at this rate........maybe this is his cunning plan?

Anyway, loved Wisley and will be going back soon, thanks for listening to the ramble

Have to agree that they've done a great job at Wisley. I went this summer (first time for ten years). Wonderfull prarie style planting around the lake, nice (new) glasshouse and interesting trial beds.

And the good thing about Wisley this summer is that it's also enjoyable in the rain.
Next time around, to take a look at what's growing, head up to Weather Hill, it's on the far left hand side. Fruit and Veg beds are up there as is the Model Garden which is laid out as allotment space with beds and greenhouses.
In the Veg garden look out for the polytunnel with tomatoes, peppers, chillis and aubergine in it. Children loved the prehistoric looking Brandywine tomatoes.

I spotted some sideshoots on the toms in the model greenhouse. Was all I could do not to reach up and pinch it out !
