  • and this is why we have a cat?

They say a picture tells a thousand words, but what this one doesn't say is:-

We don't actually have mice, so the cat brings them in for us - this one was introduced at 7 am today

She plays with them, and when they stop moving, she gets bored and lets them run away. Then she has fun catching them again - if she can be bothered.

MY OH had the catch this one on the end, and do the cat's job for her

I was woken at 10pm one Saturday (yes sad enough to be asleep at that time) by my 3 cats who had chased a live mouse into my printer...... result was I ended up stood on my drive in a disrobed state shaking said printer to evict said mouse, that promptly did a runner.

Most mates suggested the mouse should have been plugged into PC

Mine does the exact same thing, brings them in alive, gets bored and leaves me to try and catch them to throw them back out!!!

One cat I owned (rather a long time ago now) did actually learn to kill mice before I saw him with them, because if I saw him playing with a live mouse it got taken away. I only had to do it twice......

My Mum (V V squeemish!) used to leave her gardening shoes outside the back door, until, one morning when she put her foot in, to have her toes hit something. She picked up her shoe, and shook it, and a dead mouse fell out !

Gardening shoes were left indoors after that LOL !

We have our 'summer aerobics' here whereby Oliver brings in a mouse for his own pleasure. WHen I see him skulking in a suspicious manner I catch* the mouse and relocate to behind the shed.

When Domino (avatar) brings in a mouse it is for trophy purposes only, wot with being somewhat dispatched.

When either bring in a frog, 'tis easy to catch and relocate via freefall to next door's pond over the fence, thus bringing an element of excitement to the lives of the frogs.

*this is an interactive sport involving mouse and cats, with extra marks awarded for stealth, dexterity, furniture moving and teatowel throwing accuracy**
Also to be noted is the sharpness of even an ickle mouse's teeth, and the ability (or otherwise) to turn the back door handle when one has both hands cupping the (by now VERY CROSS) mouse.
A further note should be made of the lack of mouse brain - the same stoopid rodents are back (and re-rescued) a number of times. Eventually 'the clockwork runs down' and they are of no further interest to either cat, and I am left to administer last rights before consigning the plucky critter to the ...um....dustbin.

** and on one noteable occasion the taking down of a flouncy full length curtain and did an Army-stylee-under-netting-crawl into the curtain depths - once I caught the mouse, I did have a sticking point about how to get out again, not having the use of the hands...

All the mice we get - either in house or out - are headless, having been decapitated by my lovely pussy cat!

Last Sun morning came downstairs in hungover state to get the paracetamol and not having my glasses on I dropped one. So I thought to myself can't leave tablet on floor cat might eat it, but I can't see cos no glasses. So I get down on hands and knees and come face to face (approx 8 inches away from) headless mouse - nice! - Nothing like a dead mouse in the face to cure your hangover!
The worst bit was that I didn't find the tablet until later when putting on my trainers (which had been next to dead mouse) - my toe touched the tablet and I freaked out and ran around kitchen thinking it was the mouse's head! OH nearly died of laughing.
But it wasn't funny, not at all.

When we had 2 cats, we'd actively discourage them from bringing in presents, because they would bring in maimed robins, blue tits etc as well as half-bunnies and mice.
                          It was heartbreaking.

SIL's cat would bring home live gifts, but would also steal from neighbour's houses/washing baskets - her 'gifts' one week included a pillow case, a very large pair of underpants and a skein of mixed tapestry wool.
Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

I'm so glad that mine's not the only cat to bring home live presents for me I really am terrified of mice (I know they're small and I'm big!) and I hate having to either catch a live one or sweep up one that's died from shock. The last straw was when she brought home a robin - I rescued it and put it back where I thought it had come from, but I never did see any more robins in the garden after that
