  • Wet weather

I know my garden needs the rain, but I`m running in the Race For Life tomorrow at Western Park in Leicester (it`s my first time) and I would like it to stop raining as it is pissing it down, so I don`t get soaked.

I know this will be hard to believe about the Highlands of Scotland but I watch the forecast every day and am becoming insanely jealous of you lot south of Perth. I have had one real day's rain in about six weeks - lots of silly wee showers but the easterly winds dry them out as soon as the drops hit the ground. I have about 1.5km of peas drippping with empty pods and about 1 km of broadies doing the same. And I really really need a downpour to swell not just the peas and beans but also my new potatoes as they are what bring the punters in to my field in the first place. So if you wanna send some rain my way, please feel free.

                Hi Sharon

Hope it goes well, it's looking pretty windy in the Midlands today - hope the rain stays away for you.

SewerRat, we get the same weather as you I think. Stuck out on the furthest tip of East Anglia, our weather tends to be completely different to what they get just 6 miles inland. ness point - Google Maps
We've had no real rain for weeks, just the odd sprinkle.

Hello Sharonr, I've done western park twice. Not today though. The best of luck.

When you see this next i guess you will have done it, the rain is not a problem, just makes your feet squelchy, you will be dripping with sweat any how, and it will help to keep you cool.

The sun being out makes it really hard work, i first did it during that scorching summer few years ago and got sunburnt legs waiting at start.

I guess by now you will have found the small hill on the course, small steps, that's what gets you up.

Its the best feeling on the last bit of the course with the crowd cheering away.

Well done for thaking part, an emotional day for many.

We must be getting someone elses share of rain this year. As far as crop growing is concerned and as long as it's reasonably warm though, the crops flourish with it. I've never had to use mains water for watering this year as the water butts keep filling as quick as I keep emptying them.

Must be awful for anyone who is suffering a drought and can't for whatever reason get water onto there crops!

On a lighter note, many moons ago when I used to do the Great North Run regularily I used to look forward to it raining to keep me cool and refreshed during the race!

                            I`m back and aching!!!!

Well I didn`t get to wet.. It rained on and off but I`m glad it wasn`t hot though, I think it would be better to run/ powerwalk in the rain. I really enjoyed myself today, doing my bit for others worse off than me. I did it in about 35 minutes and considering I`ve not ran for a while I think that was good.
On the way there we also helped a young lad who had just wrapped his car around a lamppost. We called the police etc. and his parents. His dad has just called from the hospital he has a broken pelvis but should be ok. We were shocked at how many cars were just going by and not stopping.
Thank you all for your kind words, I might see you next year.
                            Sharon.
