  • Went to Donnington yesterday......

Had a fab day (even in the rain) at Donnington (motor bike race) but...........
Trying to get out of car parks was a joke....what were 'THEY' thinking about.
We have been to many very, very busy similar events including several F1 Grand Prix in my time but this was stupid. We stayed right to the end to cheer on the less well know classes. It was almost 7pm by the time we got back to the car park.
TOTAL GRID LOCK bearing in mind the big event had ended some 3ish hours ago which saw most of the spectators leave. The car parks were not really that busy at 7pm so why did it take so long to get out?
It makes me so mad.....they park us up quick enough and are happy to take our money quick enough, but when it comes us leaving 'THEY' seem just to abandon the car parks and the people who are trying to be patient and wait their turn. Most were just sounding their horns hoping that someone -circuit wise ('THEY') would see that there was a huge problem and come to keep order. I think in the end it was the police that did this job.
Two huge fields using one exit- no order at all. People were just diving to the corner exit (talk about giant funnel) no lane control what so ever - where were all those people who put order into the parking on the way in??? as I said even the police had to get involved. The visitors (us included) were so frustrated. In over one hour I saw a car move just 50m!!!
I should have smelt a rat when during the lunch time break the track radio commentator spent almost 5mins telling us about leaving the car parks and how they have a plan set up, and it conforms to the circuit requirements etc...and that even the campers would be out by 7pm! it was as if they darn well new it would be chaos and some!!!!
Considering an awful lot came on motor bikes............

HOW THE HECK CAN THEY EVEN THINK OF RUNNING THE F1 GRAND PRIX THERE NEXT YEAR- UTTER MADNESS.

sorry- rant not even started yet....but I will keep a lid on it...for now. Off to type a letter to greedy DONNINGTON

Racing was great and the atmosphere was fantastic and the sound of those big bikes was brilliant!

I just Hope everyone got home safely as driving conditions were truly awful.

    Anyone else from here go???

We didn't go but we have had people in our shop this morning complaining about the same problems as you.
But wow what a weekend of racing eh! I can't believe the amount of crashes! (not that it's all about the crashes lol!) Just as I'm sitting ther armchair commentating about how Rossi can cruise home seeing as both his main rivals are out of the points and he goes down himself! On the edge of my seat three laps from the end at the possibility of Colin Edwards winning his first MotoGP at the last Donnington race... but alas not to be. Great result for him and Randy though (happy for Dovvie but not a HRC fan).
OK, I'm gonna stop rambling now...

Oh yes, never miss MotoGP, first practice, qualifying and races in all classes. Same story with WSB and BSB. I've only been to one MotoGP live at Catalunya a few years ago, but it's my dream to go to Mugello for my birthday as it always falls on my birthday weekend, hopefully before Rossi retires.
I don't do F1 though, strictly 2 wheels for me

I went there, years ago, with someone else's boyfriend, when the girl couldn't go at the last minute! Had a whale of a time, saw Foggie win (it was Superbikes), but don't remember much of the journey home. I went on the back of a motorbike and all the way there kept nutting the poor guy with my crash helmet, everytime he applied the brakes or changed gear. Happy days! That was 1999!!

We did indeed have alot of bikers around the surrounding villages this weekend.....but I am dreading F1 coming here.....might have to go away for that weekend. Usually, although we see the increase of bikers during any racing, and metalheads during download; the traffic itself is unaffected for us [we are the next village along], but I suspect that will all change when it is cars and not bikes or music involved.

I'd still love to see Gene Simmonds [from KISS] at the Co-op trying to chat up the staff there whilst he stocks up on his Pimms - er I mean BEER....but that's totally off topic [sorry]......

LOL! It's great you had such a good time, but I'm not surprised you didn't get a repeat invite from the rider with the sore head

Oh yes, now that would be good.

[Surely Ozzmeister, it's rosehip you want, not chamomile...]

We either go away or stay in during Air Show weekend...yep the organisers have some blame....but if you let the General Public get away with it they will be total idiots.
