  • An Unhappy Shortie, Sorry Need to Rant

Sorry I just need to get this off my chest, and ultimately it's my own fault I know... So it goes like this

Next week Mr Shortie, the two kids and I are supposed to be going away for the Bank Holiday weekend. The first 'non family' holiday we've done our honeymoon over 5 years ago, but more importantly it's the first time we'll be meeting with a group of other parents with diabetic children. I've been looking forward to it since we booked up in Jan and I thnk we'll learn alot and it's importnat both Mr Shortie and I are there.

A couple of weeks ago we enquired about a second dog through a breeder as we knew she was due to have another Ruby puppy to sell. It turned out it was ready and she was way the weekend just gone so wanted it picked up soon. She said if we couldn't find alternative care for it while we were away (too young to have jabs for the kennels, the first is fine as she's had her jabs) she'd take him back for the weekend. We double checked it with her before we arranged to meet up.

Last weekend we bought the puppy - checking again first that she'd be able to have him the Bank Holiday weekend. So I phoned her tonight and she's got plans and has someone looking after her new puppies and older dogs and doesn't think they'll be happy to look after another puppy

Now I realise after purchase that our dog's not her responibility, but we checked 3 times with her and told her we'd only be able to take him off her hands if she could have him back this weekend. Now it looks lik our break away and chance to meet up with the other parents is screwed up and I'm so upset.

The place we're staying at don't allow dogs. I don't want to put on my Mum and Mr Shortie's parents who I'm sure would help us out live in Wales.

    Sorry, rant over
    Shortie

do you have a trust worthy friend or friend with a trustworthy teen over 16 that could dog cross house sit for you, or a dog sitter maybe be able to help. good luck, sounds like sell was pulling a fast one and made promises to clinch the sale.

that is not a nice thing for them to do,sounds like they deceived you, pitty that there is no leagle body to go to for advice, like there is with other trades, have you not got a good friend or reletive living nearer to you that will take care of the puppy, how about asking at the rspca, see if they can recomend someone, like you get people that train the guide dogs,or are there any peeps living near you,or am i talking out my ears, any ways hope you can get something sorted out.

Just thinking out loud here...........apart from kennels are there not foster parents for dogs as well as humans? Could be the wine talking here so if I read this in the morning and think it's shite, I'll delete it!

I hope you find somebody. I'd offer, being not too far from London, but not sure if a baby puppy could cope with a pair of big lively boxers!! (or how himself would react) I'd be terrified they'd squash her.

Lol, that's sweet for the offers, but I wouldn't want to put on anyone.

I'm going to contact a place in London tomorrow who do 24hr care. I know my Mum would pop in for m (Dad's away) but I don't think she'd be impressed if I asked her he could stay over and it's not fair on them to just be popped into.

She may well come up with the goods, but yes, I think we took that one hook line and sinker. I was going to give a friend her details as they wre looking for a Ruby Cav but I think I'll pass onthat idea now. And ultimately, my dog, my problem.

I'll call the Kennels that Ruby is going to stay at and uss out with them about the jabs etc and if they would be able to fit him in with her anyway... Thn phone our vets. He doesn't like starting th jabs befor 12 weks but I'll explain the situation and see what he recomends

I also menioned to Mr Shortie to see if he'd ask his Mum and Dad as we're going generally in that direction anyway (Circencester is where we're going) and they're very experienced with dogs, But his Mum is having some problems with his Nan being in and out of hospital so it doesn't seem fair to ask

Two of my sisters live there Shortie - 1 in South Cerney, the other in Minchinhampton. I could ask them tomorrow if they know anyone locally who could have the pup to board? Both of them have dogs themselves so they might have some ideas?

                    Hiya

Yes please Sarzwiz, if they do happen to know anyone that'd be lovely. They may not be able to take a pup on, but I can still ask...

We're staying at Hoburne (?) We've never been there before but it's supposed to be lovely. The people we're going to meet went there for the first time last year. There are about 20-odd families going from the group

Sorry my typing is so bad, I've moved the computer and now sit with the keyboard on my lap. I seem to keep missing letters out as I go

Hoburne Holiday Park? Looks like a nice place when we've driven past it
My dad has a place on Spring Lake near South Cerney (just up the road from where you're going) Watermark Holidays but we haven't been for a couple of years - he won't let us take the dog!

Wow that place looks fab! Th Spring Lake photo reminded me of the Lodge 'Baby' stayed at in Dirty Dancing!

My Mum and Dad used to have a caravan on the Haven site at Hastings, and took theirs Dogs. Saying that when we book this years holiday we're basing it on being able to take our two dogs. But I can also understand when people don't want pets in their places

Yeah, we just went to a cottage in Wales over Easter & took the dog with us. Can't leave her really - she gets seperation anxiety really badly, so the kennels aren't really an option. We have a good friend who'd dog sit for us, but it would mean him booking the week off work to do it! We did sneak the dog into Dad's hut (what he calls it!) once, and he never noticed the next time he went as we cleaned the place so well afterwards, but my little sis threatened to "tell on us" if we did it again, said he'd think she'd had her dog there and she wasn't taking the flak Bladdy sisters!

I'll text them both tomorrow & PM you if I get any useful info. Gotta go to bed now, got 20 tomato & about 40 chilli plants to pot on tomorrow

Shame on that breeder!I don't agree that once a pup has left it is no longer the breeders responsibility. If you breed a puppy you are responsible for it for the rest of it's life and this means taking it back if it can no longer be looked after and,as in your case caring for it whilst the new owner can't.
I only wish you were nearer to me. Hope it all works out for you.

Thansk everyone, panic over... I've spoken to the kennels Ruby is going into and thay have an isolation unit that her and Jasper can go into if Jasper can't have his first jab. If he can, I'll let them know and they'll put them in normal kennels.

I'm not impressed with her, from a 'keeping her word' way. I was going to pass her details on to someone who I know is going to be looking for Ruby King cans soon, but that's not going to happen know, and if she phones back tonight like she said she woud (though I doubt I'll get the call), then I'll tell her this so she realises it's a bad idea to make empty promises to people as it leave a bad taste.

She wanted some photos of him when he was bigger too. She can go stuff that idea where the sun don't shine
