  • Is this true???

I am looking at treating myself to a little 2 seater car, as I sold my last convertible to fund my house move to France and now want another one to pootle round the lanes in, summer time ... and the weather is easy etc etc.

In discussion with a laydee (although I would suggest a real laydee wouldnt know such things) I was saying that I thought red would be the colour to have, but she was horrified, saying that ...thinks how to put this tastefully.... If I had a red sports car, at my age, it would indicate that I am lacking in a certain department.

I'd never heard this before (sheltered life). Is this really a truism??

I was told more or less the same thing when I got a blue MG when I was 53.

Me thinks it is just another one of those little things perpetuated by the female of the specie to have a little pop at us blokes.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

The only thing about (Red cars-whatever the make) is that statistics show that they tend to draw the attention of the police more than any other colour, and nearly all red cars are the ones that get stopped by the police by as much as thirty percent more, even if you are doing nothing wrong. they say it's like waving a red flag to a bull, they feel they must investigate and peer into it when it is parked etc, etc,

I don't know if the colour is significant but I've always known zippy little sports cars for gentlemen of a certain age as 'mid life crisis cars'. But hey, go for it Boble and prove 'em wrong!

I honestly dont know BW, I think we may have to wait for the laydeez to awaken from their slumber to tell us.
Steve, sadly I think your choice of words may be our downfall here!!
MJ, I dont see coppers where I am, so that doesnt worry me too much.

how can I put this nicely? (cos you are nice Bob)
red sports car = mid life crisis/boy racer/"bite"

also if you're a big bloke, it looks like a Noddy car

do they do any classier colours? like gunmetal/bronze/ British Racing Green?

Agree with two sheds here. Most ladies would see it as a mid life crisis or worse, a more subtle(read tasteful) colour is more likely to avoid negative attention

Definitely no danger of being a Noddy car, I'm only a shorty.
Not sure if I could have 2 mid life crises, having apparently already had one.

Hmmm, not sure what to do about the colour now, as the one I want is predominantly in red.

What car are you hankering for Bob? Some of them are ok in red.

OH has a MX5 British racing green thank goodness. Our daughter calls it his mid life crisis car and our friend says it is a hairdresser's car. I think I would have divorced him if he had chosen a red one

No car at all if I find out that if I get one it appears I am lacking in something.
                          Will drive a Hummer instead.

Please don't get a Hummer - they are dreadful looking things

As asked before, what car is it as some are okay in red. Some though are just as Two_Sheds says.
