The chap next to my plot told me today he uses 2 soluble asprin diluted with 2 ltrs of water to deter diseases on his plot and says it works !!! He also says full cream milk diluted deters blight, as long as you use it before you get blight as I am new to growing veg has anyone else heard of this or is it a wind -up ?

New one on me Jackie, but I wouldn't confess to knowing that much really. I would have thought if they were that successful in controlling blight, I would have come across it by now, sounds like a wind up to me.
Personally I wouldn't want to use any drugs on my plot, you have no idea what affect it is having on the wildlife, or how much is stored in the veg.

I used full fat milk on my peas last year as a remedy for mildew, I think it forms a kind of coating on the leaves. Again, best done before it spreads - or happens I guess.

Well, aspirin is a natural product of Willow tree bark, I think. I knew I was forgetting something in my tomato boosting mixture. I saw a video on it on someone's blog. I think she was a grower for top restaurants and said that aspirin boosts the immune system of the plants therefore making them more resistant to disease and pests.

Would fish blood and bone be ok with this method rather than the whole head?. I have enough trouble getting my OH to touch the flesh when cooked, what she would say to me if I arrived home with a load of fish heads I'm not sure.Originally posted by marigold007 View Post

fish heads? bone meal? fertilizer? egg shells? blimin ell how much do you really need in one go,. im was just wondering if shes planting in the same place each year instead of crop rotation, made for an interesting read but i dont think i will be that drastic. i mean tomato plants grow on our landfill sites so they really shouldnt be that hard to grow, though i have found left over beer from a barby helps tommys nicely

I would guess that the fish blood and bone would be immediately available; whereas, the fish head would feed the tomatoes in about six weeks.Comment
