  • Right, I'm getting a little fed up with this!

Someone out there is trying to get me down.

Ok, so I've two "slipped" discs, being treated on the 6th with cortesone "epidural" injections which will hopefully work. Quite painful at times and added to the fact that LadyWayne is snoring quite loudly at the moment means I'm losing sleep. Classic attempt to make someone grumpy.

I've been backward and forward to the ENT department to sort my ears out and it turns out I've got an ear infection (which might explain my recent boughts of dizziness). Sat in waiting rooms for an hour or so each time, added to previously mentioned back niggle - textbook grumpiness inducing tactics.

Was at the doctors last week for a blood test as my blood pressure was quite high (which they said may be due in part to the back pain). I get home tonight having been faffed about by the pharmacist/doctors and open a letter from the doctor.

As a result of my blood test they want me to make an appointment to discuss my raised cholesterol and a level of abnormality of liver function!

Bean, your father's a hypochondriac! (sp?)

Chuff em! I'm still smiling - there's others out there with far more to deal with than me I know, but sometimes you just have to wonder dontcha?

Sorry if this comes across as a whinge, I'm just venting.

Oh, and ASDA refuse to stop playing that chuffing advert!

When I was v heavily pregnant with my 2 (ie I ressembled a whale) OH wore earplugs. He said they saved his sanity!
It was when he wanted to wear them AFTER the baby was born so he couldn't hear the crys to do the night feeds for me I had to say enough's enough!

      Worth a shot?

janeyo - oh and hope you feel better soon, 2009 is going to be GREAT for you!

HeyWayne you are definately allowed to vent, now and again. You are certainly going through the wars, aren't you. Good news is when Bean is here Lady Wayne won't be snoring! Can I suggest ear plugs for the Asda advert?

My OH has had a spinal operation similar to yours wayne and is on some very 'heavy' painkillers. She has kidney and liver problems which are caused by the medication. The medication also kills her appetite and sends her to sleep.
She is at a stage now where once or twice a week she tries to put up with the severe pain to be free of the medication and allow her to eat something.
Not to belittle your predicament but she also has an inoperable brain tumer and has just found out she has a heart murmour!
It's hard for anyone who hasn't got chronic back pain to imagine what it's like but your symptoms are so much like my wifes I CAN have empathy for you!

Keep your pecker up Wayne and don't let the b*st*rds grind you down!

Lots of big (((hugs))) to both HW and Snadger & Mrs S. I feel for you both.

It might turn out Wayne that the painkillers added to the infection are causing some of your problems? Hopefully when you've had anti-biotics and epidurals, things will improve!

Hope you start to feel better soon Wayne. As to the chuffin Asda adverts - it's only another couple of days then they should stop it! You'll just have to watch a non-commercial channel or DVD's or read some books about changing nappies

My OH went to docs with a bad leg, came back with a slipped disc and blood pressure so high he has been on medication ever since!

The disc I can understand, but the blood pressure worried me - one of my GPs tested me and said 'If it's that high next time you'll have to go on tablets, however it's lower than the time before when the other GP tested you' (or words to that effect) - so basically its 'I'm more fussy than him' or 'my drug salesman is more efficient'.

BUT, I keep getting panic attacks, and my jaw hurts becuase I clench so much whilst I'm asleep - but with me it's just knowing FIL is coming for Christmas.

I realise I will be jumped on by all those who have been pregnant or who have partners who have been pregnant, but is there any hope your health will improve when Bean is a Runner?

I've got no suggestions for you Wayne ~ I'm sitting here myself at 3am with back pain & can't sleep because of it

I can't even have a cappuccino for another 4 hrs cos the noise will wake Mr Sheds up, and he's grumpy enough already at the moment

First off Wayne, you are NOT a hypochondriac - a state in which a person continually worries about their health without having any reason to do. You DO genuinely have problems, and you are trying to get them sorted. Even though it can be hard sometimes, do not feel guilty for being ill. (Easier said than done sometimes)
When your health goes for a while it is natural to get fed up and grumpy. All that time when you can't go to work, but you can't do anything useful at home either, because you're hurting too much. However despertley (sp) you want to do stuff, stop and think, 'will this slow my recovery'.
As far as blood presssure and cholesterol, the pain may well be causing the blood pressure. To start with my doc thought my sky high blood pressure was causing the symptoms, I have a machine at home and I could see that when pain was less, blood pressure was normal. After I had been sitting on an uncomfortable chair in the waiting room for an hour, it was high! Although these can be serious conditions, diet, pills and potions can help control them, so try not to stress over them.
Grumpy is fine for a while, I usually apologise in advance when I feel a serious attack of the grumps coming on. At least it warns people what to expect. I often find that if I indulge in self pity for a short while it passes quicker, trying to fight it just makes it worse Everyone might not agree, but that's my opinion.
Have you tried relaxation tapes/mp3s etc? I find if I can untense (is that a word?) the muscles that the pain lessens.

I'm off to physio again this morning. After trying to pull my head off with traction last week, and me suffering badly since, I wonder what delights are in store today I'll probably be joining you in the grumps later.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Sorry things are so carp for you at mo & hoping the injections in the new year ease your back problems. The "level of abnormality" with your liver is hopefully only slight...and possibly the docs are being extra vigilent because of the painkillers....I know it won't stop your worrying, but the liver has an amazing ability to self heal & hopefully after the cortisone you'll be able to cut back on the other stuff.....I know from experience that sometimes the more specialists you're under, the more frustrating it can all get,as they don't seem to work together, but try & hold faith that they'll get you fixed.
As for the Asda ad...just wait til yer lil Bean can fill in the few breaks the telly gives....DD keeps randomly singing that one line...twas cute initially!!
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx
