  • Patrick has arrived!

You may remember we got 4 shetland ewesa few months ago. They have settled in well and now is the mating season (no I'm not talking about Piskie!).

So today, young Patrick the Ram arrived in all his splendor. the girls ran right up to him and then 2 of them turned their bums to him and lifted up their tails.....seems like they wanted to make the wee fella welcome! so looks like lambs will be happening after all.

and then the best bit was, me 'n' Mr SN were standing by the wall and he came right over to us and let Mr SN scratch his face! it was one of those soppy moments when you are glad to be alive.

Orders being taken for next year lambs.........

Hmmm, lamb is my least favourite meat, I think but I do like a frisky ram, lol! Hope you enjoy your new arrival (s).

He's supposed to be staying till the job is done but i suspect his folks dont know what to with him so i think they might not be in a hurry to have him back as they'll have to make a decision about what to do with him!

they've also offered us a silkie or a RIR cockerel......

So can you do a photo? I don't think I've ever seen a Shetland sheep and I'd love to see a piccie of Patrick and the girls. I fell in love with a breed called White Faced Woodlands (I think) at an agricultural show, and a year or two later discovered they'd originated in the hills round where I grew up and where Mum still lives, and I'd never seen one before; they're apparently quite rare now, but their fleeces are good for hand-spinning, so at the very least I'd like to track a fleece down.
