  • Painful Back!!!

Been overdoing it as usual, every night for the past couple of weeks for 3 to 4hours in the garden after work and my back just gave in this morning, terrible spasms, it's driving me mad, I don't like sitting still, had to ring in sick (which I hate doing, although this is the 1st time I have) and daytime telly is rubbish. It has eased slightly, I've been using Mr C's crutches from his knee op (which he never took back) been doing the usual rest, heat packs, creams and painkillers. Is there anything else I can do? Help!

The osteopath rule is to alternate hot and cold packs (ie peas), each for the same amount of time. Works for me!

Stretch your hamstrings - trust me.

I have been sat in the car (LadyWayne's as mine is awaiting a new MOT) for about 6 hours today and my sciatic nerve was twingeing as a result. Plenty of hamstring stretches and if feels a lot better.

      You'll be amazed.

I can even touch my toes these days.

Make sure you do all the hamstrings though - inner and outer. Let me know if you want some stretches to help.

I would also suggest getting it checked out - it would mean specific training/stretching/fixing to you

Mine (sciatica) has been brought about by the piriformus being a bossy b*gger cos of a damaged disc (L5S1 - very common, yer yer ) - which was diagnosed following an MRI

                    Nice piccie for ya

....so in addition to having to do hamstring stretches, I have to take into account me pirithingy

Have you tried the pulling your right knee up towards your left shoulder stretch?

Take up yoga. I did 7 years ago. Back has no problems and I can - amongst other things - stand on my head.

As you will realise this makes weeding much easier :-)

Never tried weeding whilst standing on my head! Closer to the weeds I suppose!
