    On our doorstep

    With 'staycations' being quite the thing, Icelandic volcanoes doing their bit to reduce air travel and the weather being as it is, aren't you tempted to holiday in Blighty?

    We are, and probably will for the forseable future, and when I read things like this; BLDGBLOG: An edge over which it is impossible to look

    I realise just how amazing this place we call home is. How much I have yet to see, and how much I want to discover.

    When I first saw it I didn't think it was in the UK and was quite surprised when I found out where it is.

    Do you have any local secrets/attractions you never realised were there?

    We've nearly always holidayed in the UK... since we take the dogs with us, it's easier to stay here!

    We've always gone up to Scotland for our jollies, but this year we're going to venture down to the New Forest - I've never been that far south! How exciting!

      If ever you go to the Isle Of Skye, you must check out this place, it is magical.

        Every area in our beautiful country has it's special bits. On your vist down south please don't miss the Jurassic Coast. Durdle Door at Lulworth Cove is memorable.

          We absolutely love West Wales, and go to New Quay when we can afford it. The drive there is absolutely spectacular (Snowdonia) and Cardigan Bay is home to some bottlenose dolphins which can be seen from New Quay pier on a calm day

          New Quay, West Wales on beautiful Cardigan Bay - Holiday Cottages, Caravans, Wildlife, Walks, History, Pubs, Restaurants and local Services.

          Volcanoes and suchlike have very little impact on our holiday plans - we've only been out of the country once in 17 years, and that was to go to my sister's wedding in Luxembourg...

                There are some wonderful areas in the UK, but to holiday there is excessively expensive, even if I lived there still.
                Plymbridge in Plymouth still holds magical memories for me, loved it as a kid and loved it when I went back as an adult.
                However, unpronouncable eruptions notwithstanding, I love to travel abroad, and now that my immediate plans have changed, I'm hoping to go and stay with a mate in China later this year.

                  We would love to holiday abroad, but the costs make it out of our reach at present. (we love Italy! )
                  So mostly we go somewhere in the UK. Last year the good old IOW, 2008 North Yorks, 2007 Kent, 2006 IOW, 2005 Cornwall and this year we're going to Stratford, as we have never been there.

                  Like the look of Wales though Sarzwix, have not been there since I was a teenager, and then only to Cardiff (Thinking about next year )

                    Cool, love the New Forest and as Bren says you have to go and look at the coastline. Dont forget to visit Southampton

                      Oh, I love the Fairy Glen, BM Mr Frosty and I used to stay in Primrose Cottage in Uig. Last time we were there was December 2005. You've brought back memories

                        We're very lucky in Sheffield in that we live on the edge of the Peak District, so just a few miles from the city is open countryside.
                        I'm impressed OWG that coming from Lancashire, you're extolling the pleasures of Yorkshire!

                          Aha! I was born in Yorkshire (Jessop's in Sheffield), and lived near Barnsley for most of my childhood

                          Only came over to the dark side through a family move... however, I've been moving north ever since - determined to get to Cumbria!

                            Not only but also Poole Quay. I only used to visit the town but how I missed the quay I will never know

                              We went down to the New Forest last October, really cheap last minute cottage (small but lovely) and so easy to get about. We're still eating the mushrooms and chesnuts we foraged while we were there too. Thinking of going back again next year, even if just to stock up

                              Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                              Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
