  • Ooops, its turned out to be an expensive day!

Ok, things have been ok recently, we've managed to get the finances back into some sort of semblance of order, and for the frst time in 10 years found ourselves actually not living in the overdraught (thanks to my share option and yearly bonus)! Then the last few weeks it seems to have gone wrong again!

About 3 weeks ago the main oven of our cooker packed up, the door has been going for a while, not shutting properly, and generally after 8 1/2 years hard use its coming to the end of its life, so we've been looking for a replacement for the past few weeks, but as its a 90cm one its not been quite as simple as we thought!

Add on top of that the fact that hubby's car, Fiat Panda scrapped through its MOT last week, with an advisory that the whole of the rear suspension is on its last legs, and in the words of our friendly mechanic, 'Get shut of it asap, its going to be uneconomical to repair it as it will cost more than its worth!'

So, we knew we were facing a couple of big bills, one for a new cooker and another for a replacement car for Lee (we live in a small village 7 miles from his work with really poor public transport, and Lee works shifts that can start at 6am and finish at 1130pm, so much as we'd like to do without a car, we really dont have all that much of a choice in the matter! No car = no work for Lee)

Today we went out shopping, and popped into Currys to look at the cookers, found a Leisure 90cm cooker on clearance, really good price, so ended up buying it, its going to be installed in 2 weeks time!

Its not only a lovely cooker, but feels really well put together and a lot more solid than the Elba one we are sadly going to say goodbye to!

After leaving Currys Lee said he wanted to pop into VW to have a look at the Fox.......... well, 2 hours later we exited!

Having paid the deposit and agreed a trade in for Lee's Panda! We pick up his brand new Fox in dark grey on Thursday!

Looks like its going to be beans on toast n cereal to eat for the foreseeable future! Lol!

    Ah well, tis only money!

Nice cooker....and sometimes we have to buy things, its a sad fact but true.

My OH's car had some trouble the other day, too, its a pergeot 306 diesel W reg. He works 30 miles away, and does shifts too, so know the feeling. We had visions of having to find a car, although we couldnt afford new, it would wipe out all our credit for years to come....
(Luckily it was some sort of belt on the power steering.)

Thanks guys, we both fell in love with the cooker, its got 2 ovens and a grill / oven, so more flexible than our old double oven, plus it came with a griddle for the top (which they let us bring home as they were worried about it not being brought with it as its the last one they have) which we used tonight for bacon butties, gotta say how amazed we were with the griddle, cooked the bacon to perfection, and in a quarter of the time of grilling it!

Lee was amazed that his car is going to be ready for Thursday, we're going out early taking piccies with a friend, but should be home for lunchtime, then after lunch its go n fetch his new car! Really impressed with it, ok, its not a MINI like mine, but very solid and handles well for the size of engine, plus has masses of internal room and a humungous sized boot!
