  • Oh I say, is Andy our man?

or was Andy Sturgeon's appearance just a filler? I wouldn't be disappointed with him but isn't he more a designer than a down-n-dirty guy?

Gardeners World tonight - he did a guest slot

        Andy is:

Move over Alan Titchmarsh and Monty Don, Andy is the new kid on the gardening block. His first book Planted, published in 1998, got rave reviews so he made it into a TV series.

He currently co-presents Gardening Neighbours for BBC2 and appears regularly on GMTV. In February, he took over from Alan Tichmarsh as gardening correspondent on the Daily Mail. He has his own garden design practise and has designed and created gardens for film and TV, exhibited at both Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows.

Andy trained as a landscape gardener, including three years at the Welsh College of Horticulture and a stint at the Royal Horticultural Society's garden at Wisley. He has collected plants in Madagascar and worked as an engineer on the Tsing Ma suspension bridge in Hong Kong.

I guess the jury is still out on the replacement lead for GW, but I seem to remember when Monty came on the scene that he was a relative unknown, in some quarters. So ya never know....!

I was thinking the same thing about Andy - hasn't got an annoying voice, isn't overly dramatic just for effect, is a designer who knows which plant is which, seems 'normal' and relatively down-to-earth for us lesser mortals without acres and acres of space or a 'head gardener'. Perhaps him and Alys as a team?

Just wish they'd stop filming Joe in a 'Jamie Oliver' stylee now - I can't be the only one who gets annoyed with it - or can I?

I'd rather JS, spent a little more time on his plot and a little less time on the telly to be honest.

weren't we led to believe that JS would manage his plot without any help - and he says he goes up there once a week.....hum, now call me a cynic by all means but....

How does he get to where he is and not know what a kohlrabi is?!

I'm not so keen on Andy; but I don't know why to be honest. I like dark brooding men and he seems a little blond for me. I'm sure he knows his stuff. Anyone get the feeling all these different presenters are auditioning for the part???

The filming of Joe in Jamie Oliver style - is this just to project growing your own to be more funky??? In the hope that the kids might watch it and it might catch their eye? I can't stand it myself.

No I think it's more a reflection of his youth and lack of individuality.
