  • New Year Resolutions...

    Who makes them, who doesn't?

I gave up making them years ago, as I have very little willpower. Anyway, in a bid to lose some weight, I'm considering going 'on the wagon' for a couple of months.

Normally I drink like a fish. Strangely though, I actually feel much better when I don't drink at all. My family drink a lot, I have a couple of G&Ts most nights whilst OH has at least couple of beers, and we usually hit the wine at weekends. We always have loads over Christmas and New Year (on target so far this year...)

So, not only the weight/health issue, I dread to think what it costs.

Anyway, if I go ahead, I'm going to need LOADS of nagging from you lot!

I then started wondering what resolutions are other Grapes going to make? Perhaps we can support each other.

Good luck with that Bride. OH smokes, and won't make the effort to give up. He did four months once, and caved in. He was unbearable

You sound like a strong person, but habits are just so hard to break aren't they?

Bride, I'm with you about the fags - I've GOT to give up, but whether or not it'll be on January 1st I don't know.

For 2009 I've promised myself that I WILL get my sitting room decorated (not been done since I moved in 8 years ago)
I WILL give up the fags
I WILL go to stay with my cousin in Spain for a long weekend
I WILL continue to be more outgoing and talk to people in real life, not just on here
I WILL grow some wonderful veggies
I WILL start to eat proper meals at proper times and not just "make do" because I can't be bothered
I WILL hatch some chicks, either with the incubator or under a hen

I hope that at this time next year I'll be able to say "I did all of them"
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

It's a shame you live so far away Maureen - I love decorating!

Good luck with the rest of it, but make the Spain trip longer than just a long weekend. I have my Sister, a friend, and an uncle in Spain, and if ever I go and visit I make it a short trip and it's never enough!

I quite like decorating too The long weekend will depend on:
            1 - finances
2 - whether or not my cousin will be jetting off to his "other" home in Oz
3 - how long I can get someone to look after my chooks for me

i've kinda made resolutions in the past - i've given up the fags, got fitter, got the house done up etc - the only one not fulfilled is the girlfriend one so won't bother with that one this time round
              this coming year:
i will put more effort into the fruit and veg and be a lot more organised
i will put more effort into learning french
i will lose the stone or so that i put on after giving up the fags
i will get fitter, maybe join a gym with my son, tone the body up
i will do a bit more work again to build the business up a bit
              i will eat more healthily
i will get the garden sorted out properly
i will give up the search for a girlfriend
i will book holidays more than 7 days before i go!
if i think of anything else, i'll add it later .......

well if you decide to try from the 1st, you and i can have a mutual support thing going if you like, its always a bit easier if you have someone to moan at

I never make 'em but I am totally with you on the booze G4! I have to make an effort to cut down .....

                  Against drinking (or so much):
                  1. It makes ya put on weight
                  2. It slows weight-loss down
                  3. It gives me have acid reflux
                  4. Acid reflux makes me loose my voice (seriously!)
                  5. Drinking steals 'your' time

                  For:
                  1. I like it

                  Hum....

                    In 2009 I will...

*Build my raised beds, instead of just talking about them
                    *Hatch chicks (yipeee)
                    *Lose weight
*Actually make a date for our Civil Ceremony
*Spend more time with my friends (I only have three, so it shouldn't be hard, I'm just too anti-social!!)

                    That's it....

My OH gave up smoking 7 months ago now - she's doing really good. Cold turkey....the patches made her feel ill. If she can do it...Maureen and Bride can. Come on girls!
I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

i can't use patches either, they bring me out in a rash wherever i put them

i am pretty annoyed with myself to be honest cos i have twice given up, first time for 3 years, second time for 18 months, been smoking again for a year and a bit now, so it has to stop for good this time.

That doesn't actually sound that 'piggie' for 5'9"?
To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower

no nagging just lots of praise and gentle encouragement please

                              * threats are also acceptable as long as they don't include moralistic lecturing, ie: just threaten to chop my hands off...cos ya can*
