Default New Icon thingies

I have just noticed the new icons at the bottom of the page and decided to press them...i'm just a quwrazy guy hey!...anyhow they seem to all pertain to various similar bookmark/ tracking services. Do we need these? are they yet more nonsense foisted on us by Google? Is it yet something else to help fund the site?

I may just be a suspicious Meldrew who should just catch up with these teckonological innovations, but should I be signing up for this sort of service? will I receive yet more spam as a result? or will my life be vastly improved if I take the dip...I suspect not. After all, I worry about security in a week when I understand the govn't have mislaid my wife's bank details.

In earlier days, one of the great joys of communicating by e-mail and text was its non intrusive nature. Now I find I am bombarded with spam offering me penis enhancing pills, watches, software, ringtones... blah di blah. sometimes 50 a day get past the filters... through these I must wade before I can find my mail. I have had to switch to G-mail but find it difficult to change my business e-mail.

Fortunately I have not had to change my phone no. like bubblewrap (preference service worked for us) but I do HATE being bombarded with offers to support companies with whom I hold basic ethical differences. I don't agree with this 'chuck it out and get new' consumer frenzy that seems to have a stranglehold on our society. and I certainly don't wish to be force fed a diet of advertising pap like some fois gras goose.

Come on people don't accept this here!

My point is I would rather pay a subscription to this site, over and above the magazine one, than each time I log on finding yet more ways of third parties hawking their tenuously linked wares and services through yet more channels, pop-ups, cookies Icons etc. I really feel like signing off... and shall be if this continues.

Have no problem with them myself Paul! They don't bother me and I don't intend bothering with them!

Bit like snakes and spiders I suppose!

Hello Paulottie, have a look at the explanation on the link Hazel supplied. As I understand it , Snadger is right. If we don't bother with them, they won't bother with us. I'm sorry you're so bombarded with rubbish e-mail. I'm sure it's not linked to this site as I don't have that bombardment. Please stay with us as we do really appreciate your contributions.

No Alice, I didn't mean to imply that the vine was responsible for spamming up my puter, tele, phone or doormat, To be fair,I must say that I can't trace any junk mail to GYO mag. In the past, I did however find the vine a refuge from advertising and am slightly disappointed by the introduction of these various plugs, its a creeping malaise and I just like to register it...although as usual I'm 3 days slow on the uptake!

Yeah, course I can ignore them, Snadger, I'm sure they are harmless spiders or just little grassnakes. The thing is though I don't really want to adopt an ostrich foreign policy. I don't think I like this direction toward advertising and i just thought it should be mentioned.

Well, if the Grapevine was open to paying subscribers only, I reckon it would be hosting about three users !

I pressed them all, was very disappointed to find none of them were a transporter device of some sort.

I don't think I will be using them, I'm a bit of a technophobe (if that's the right word). New things to do with computers scare me, I've only just got used to the old ones.
