  • Madness! Absolute madness!

I've seen this a couple of times now on the way home from work.

Young (approximately 30-35) lady driving a silver Astra, drivers window wound down.

    Nothing unusual so far.

Child in back of car, in booster seat.

Again, nothing out of the ordinary yet.

However, she drives with a dog (about the size of a large jack russel) on her lap, with the dog's head out of the window, and a fag on the go (she, not the dog)!

I've seen the dog moving about on her lap whilst she (the driver) is negotiating a mini-roundabout somewhat erratically.

I was actually sat behind her last night - I would have taken a photo, but I was busy with the job in hand - "driving"!

    Nutters!

Perhaps the dog is driving whilst she enjoys her fag.

So dangerous, I agree, I wonder how much she thinks of the child to put it in danger like that.

We have a harness thingy that clips onto the dog lead and then onto the seatbelt clip so that he can't move about but I do get some funny looks here in France with a right hand drive car and what seems to be a dog in the driver seat

Ooohhh... this really winds me up!

              a) How can you drive with a dog on your knee?
              b) How can you drive when smoking anyway?

I hate when dogs aren't secured in cars. I've been known to follow local drivers and tell them off for it before. They are usually old people with multiple small dogs running freely around the car, or large dogs playing on the back seat. Argh!!

                  Madness indeed!

Why is it illegal to drink, eat, use your phone, touch your satnav, touch your ipod, put your make up on in a car...but...it's perfectly ok to negotiate smoking a fag whilst driving. That has to be more dangerous than them all...yet nothing is said about it.

My dogs are always in the boot of our car, behind their grill. They're very secure in there and out of harms way! (Have to be honest OWG...I'd bite your head off if you followed me to give me a telling off! ). I also hate people who allow their kids to stand between the seats of the car, etc. It's all madness!
I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

I've seen women putting on their makeup as they drive along the motorway...and other roads!

As for a dog on the drivers lap....it'd have to be fairly small surely???...so it could easily jump down into the footwell and get in the way of the controls!!!....
I wonder when she'll finally learn the hard way after killing someone Wayne?

                        It does beggar belief.

I was driving up the motorway the other week and someone shot past me doing at least a 100 with a toddler STANDING up between the 2 front seats.
Still makes me shudder to think about it now.

Don't mind them in the boot of the car - that's where mine go!!

However, I object to driving behind someone who has 4 or 5 small dogs leaping from the parcel shelf to the front seat and back again, and keeps slamming the brakes on every time it happens. and turning round when driving to tell them off

I ended up having to pull an emergency stop when the woman went from 40mph to 0mph, turned round in her seat, moved one of the dogs to the front seat and drove off again, only to have the dog leap straight back onto the parcel shelf to fight with one of the other dogs.

Luckily, we were on the way to the local village, where she stopped by the library, which is where I was headed, so I told her how dangerous it was, and how she should have them all secured somehow in the car, as she was likely to cause an accident.

Sadly, there are a lot of people in our area who are like this, some do it with bigger dogs too. If a Labrador sized dog is unsecured in the car, it can actually kill a driver or passenger in a crash. I expect that several smaller dogs can cause just as much damage.

Ok, off soapbox now... it is a real bugbear of mine!!
