In order that discussion about links doesn't get lost in the Blogs thread, I hope this clarifies the situation with regard to links:
(links within a post or a signature)
There will obviously be times when a moderator has to make a valued judgement about what is acceptable, however, that doesn't happen very often.
In the main these rules are generally kept by all Forum members, but there have been some instances lately where links to inappropriate advertising sites have been made and obviously these have been removed. I hope you will all agree that it is important that the site remains informative and free of direct advertising (other than the google adverts on the bar!).
As indicated in the Blog Thread, it is a matter of trying to achieve the right balance.

- links from posts/threads within the Forum are perfectly acceptable
- links to internet sites are acceptable if they are informative and linked directly to the subject being discussed
- links to other internet sites which are advertising products are not acceptable
