  • lettuce with out water

Early spring I started all my seeds of and had good germination rates. I knew I was going away in spring but I thought 'never mind it will rain and keep them all watered.' I have just come back and not a drop of rain in sight so most of them are now dead apart from a long row of lettuce which are huge, tasty and not a slug in sight
Anyone else grown anything without trying

What a lovely surprise for you Stella. The slugs obviously prefer it moist.

I think i'm going to be growing a courgette in a funny place! I put a couple in the other day and then the night before last knocked one pot over, the seed has fallen out, I can't find it and there are strawberry plants below where it fell

Note to self - be less like a bull in a china shop in future!

Yep it was, lavished care on them before and all I got was a slug ridden row of holes now prize winning lettuce and no water for weeks?????? Mind you the rest of the garden looks like a barren wasteland

So THAT'S why my lettuce did so well despite me seriously neglecting them!
Must do that again this year!
