  • Insane neighbour

Our downstairs neighbour* asked my bf if we could be more careful about watering our plants because we are getting her windows wet.

Fair enough, but the day she asked it had been raining for the past week.

So does she think that I've been watering my plants in the pouring rain, or has she never noticed the rain wetting her windows before?

    * Not the neighbour whose garden I have been flicking caterpillars into. They would actually have a legit complaint against me...

** I went round the front and looked at the said window under our balcony. The only way I could get it wet would be if I actually tried too. Would have to lean right over and throw a bucket full at her window to even spalsh it. There are no gaps in our flooring either so no chance of any drips splashing down. Odd.

Could it be that it's not just getting them wet but also dirty?Just thinking when you water, the excess water brings with it little bits of compost???
Maybe offer to clean her window once a week!

I thought of that, but I sweep the balcony, most things are on trays and there are no leaks where the water could leak through and our balcony overshoots her window so far that I can't see how it would reach her window.

The windows are sort of inset, so that there's a sill over the top which would protect it from that sort of thing.

I've run downstairs to check after I've watered anything and nothing seems to be dripping, and even if it was, it wouldn't go near her window anyway.

And if it was us, we'd get muddy window from the neighbours upstairs watering their plants.

Before I moved in my BF just had a massive bag of open compost spilt across the balcony which would have made more of a muddy mess when it rained and she didnt say anything then. She's the only person in the whole block that doesn't have a balcony (because of the way the flats are built I guess) so was wondering if she was a bit jealous that we are starting to get lovely floweers?

Should add that she seems really really nice, so maybe I am messing up flat and am a neighbour from hell? Am actually dreading my tumbling toms bearing fruit in case she thinks we are hate-criming her by flinging soft produce.

Maybe this is the wrong way to think about it, but I sort of see it as the luck of the draw.

Ok, she gets muddy water when it rains, but our balcony and windows shields hers from all the pigeon poo from the 'flying rats' which nest on our roof.

Much rather have composty water than disease-ridden poop on the windows!

Maybe you could suggest she spends a week living next door to my grandads horrendous neighbours ! a bit of water on her windows would seem a petty complaint then !!

I would go down and tell her that her weeds are growing thru your floor and could she mow her carpet.

You'll be wearing away the window glass with all those excess drips!

                    Keep her on side then.

I used to have an upstairs neighbour who watered me when she watered her pots ... she wouldn't have it, until I went up there and showed her my library book all soaking wet.

She didn't have saucers under any of her pots, and the water (and soil) was washing straight through the pots' drainage holes and onto me.
