  • I'm afraid we seem to have developed a bit of a 'seed habit'!!

Hi Guys, just back from Wyevales, and I think both Lee and I need to see someone proffessionally!!

We'd heard about the 50p seed sale, so first thing this morning Mr D decides today we are definitely going seed shopping! As we knew the weather wasnt going to be much good we arranged to meet up with our fellow beekeeping friends at the plot early, to do the inspections on the 3 hives in the apiary, then after harvesting toms, squashes, peppers, chillies, sweet potatoes, courgettes and a few other bits before the rain set in, we headed off to Wyevales!

As soon as we walk thru the door Mr D walks up to the guy behind the counter and asks, 'I hear you've got a bit of a sale on some 'seeds!' The Guy looks at Lee as tho he's some sort of addict asking to buy drugs, then shows him where the 8 barrels of seed are, at which point Mr D and I start going thru them!

An hour and a half later as they were about to close we took 80 packets of seeds to the cash desk, all for the princely sum of £40!!!!

Looks like we're now pretty much set up for next year now, apart from some more varieties of sweetcorn, squash n pumpkin, and onion sets and seed spuds!

What makes it worse is the fact that we've already got LOADS of seeds at home! Lol!

I accused Lee of having a 'seed habit', he replied, 'No I havent, I'm just a farmer!' Lol!
    Blessings

I went to Wyevales today as well, on the lookout for onions sets as my other 2 haunts haven't had them in yet and......after wandering around for ages I found them by the out door. I could have easily walked past

I however was absolutely fine walking past the seeds. I've been this way since I had all the seed parcels delivered and I spent one evening and one day sorting the flipping things out. I have a quick glance for a few things I want which nobody ever has and walk away.

So, I took home 150 sets, and will get some others from another haunt as they only had one bag of my faves. 100 are in a seed tray already and the other 50 are going straight into a bed that the OH prepared 2 days ago. I love this time of year

The couple that seed shop together, stay together, I reckon

Slightly off topic, how did you get your sweet potatoes to harvesting stage? Not something I've managed to achieve yet!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

            Hi guys,

Zazen, we asked about onion sets, they are due in next week at our local WV! We usually get them from another local GC, as they are usually 99p for about 150 sets!

FF, probably not a bad thing altogether chuck, at least you wont be tempted into a seed addiction! Lol!

LG, yep, 2 full allotments, tho I think we may need a bit more room with all these seeds!

            Seahorse, Lol! Probably true!

The sweet potatoes, Lee started them off in a heated propogator, just normal sweet potatoes from Aldi's, scrubbed then put directly into soil in the propogator in February, then into large pots in the windowsills then finally they are planted into barrels that are inside a glazed lean to on the shed, they're a bit overshadowed by the grapevine that grows over the shed, but we took the first couple of small ones today, the rest we'll leave a bit longer to see if they get any bigger! HTH!
            Blessings

Yeah I went there 2 weeks ago and came out with rather too many as well - had to push quite hard to get them in the seed box, but now have most of next years seeds. They were all Suttons seeds on offer.

I even bought a pack for one of the guys at the allotment who had not grown chinese veg before and had a space to try them out - he shared them with a neighbour's child. Now that is what I call a real bargain.

Did you see the half price chicken manure as well? 10 kilos - very heavy!

                  Seed Addict.

MY name is Seasprout, I cannot resist a bargain.

There are 2 Wyevales near me..... I've been to both to do the seed in the tub thing.

However....I Can't believe i'm going to tell you this.... I piled most of the packets into 1 tub and scuttled off into a quiet corner and had a rootle through undisturbed so nobody to get the good stuff before me..!

I'm so bad... but it was so good.!

Mrs Dobby - it's not a good thing I need seed bargains, I want to rake in amongst loads of seed packets and buy lots of what I don't need cheaply You can never have enough seeds after all.

Too many seeds means the ones you want for planting are too difficult to extract from the bottom of the the seed box, and you have to go out and get some more....don't ask me how I know that.

I managed to restrain myself a couple of weeks ago and only bought 20 packets but that was only to top up the other 150 unopened packets I already had at home. Am on holiday next week so no telling how many more packets I will end up with. Onion sets arrived today, 300 for £8 which I reckon is about the going rate, Troy, Red Electric and Radar. Think I will hang on a few weeks before I plant them as it seems a bit early yet.

my name is Enrich100 and im a Seedoholic

It's less than a week since swapping seeds by post

It's been just over a week since I swapped seeds with a friend in person

It's been 2 weeks since I last bought my packet of seeds

It's been 1 month since my last seed parcel

it's been 3 weeks since picking up yet more plant pots from freecycle

my current packet count is probably near the hundred mark (some flowers, herbs included) but Im still looking through seed catalogues

I grow chillis that I can not eat (12 types)

This year I grew 8 types of tomatoes (40 ish plants 10 hanging baskets) more planned for next year

instead of building my children a wooden wendy house I built them a mesh house that the runner beans grow over instead of using canes

I have been to wyvale 2 since the seed sale has been on and would go again if my OH unties me
