  • How did Noah manage???

It's not quite Noah's ark here, and for that some days, I am glad!
Yesterday the chickens were roaming freely, I had remembered to lock the gate so the dogs couldn't get in and stared forlornly through the fence, and didn't try to jump it (for a change).
So I'm busy pottering about when I heard a fence panel rattle. The cat! He often spies on the chickens and to be fair they are bigger than him, but I wasn't taking any chances - I'm sure he was in my daughters bedroom and am wondering if he jumped out of the window!
So I quickly grabbed him, protesting very much (him not me) and shoved him in the house quickly closing the downstairs windows and door. There was a squawk from outside so I rushed out, the dogs are where I left them...
Chickens are chasing a frog! I flap about trying to stop them and rescue it. It is chaos - imagine wacky races bird-style! The dogs are jumping up and down and barking enjoying the mayhem. The frog plops in the pond and the chickens go for it, one stumbles and falls in sideways! Chicken rescued. Three run back in the coop - think they are suffering from Stockholm syndrome. Wet bird (Marjory) Fluffs up and is unperturbed and pretended she meant to fall in. Dogs still barking. Cat appears again - how???!!!! Grab cat, kick coop door shut. Back through the gate, shushing dogs who are now jumping at the cat on my shoulder. Cat back in. Dogs given a treat and lay down quietly - (dogs not me). Back through gate, coop door is open! All chickens out again - right around the pond peering in! Stupid coop door has warped with weather and keeps pinging open! Then it's half an hour of chicken corralling, finally get them in. Then another frog (where from??!!) is on the stones in the dog bit, the dogs see the frog and chase him - he's quick though and jumps about all over the place. Cat is at daughters window looking out - I locked it ha! Frog goes behind shed, dogs go back to their chews. cat appears - I am wondering if we have more than one! I still can't figure out how he gets out! And no, we don't have a cat flap! Gave up being Mrs Noah for the day and went and made a brew!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I suppose Noah had the benefit of torrential rain, every thing stayed inside for shelter? great story.

hahaha! My husband said the same thing - I just needed a little bald man to slap on the head to finish off the day - my husband is bald but too tall to reach!!

I figured out the cats escape route!!!! This morning I was watching him outside the bathroom door. Our bathroom is downstairs. It doesn't have a pull down handle with a latch if you know what I mean. It has a push ball catch. You pull the door towards you into the hallway to open it, rather that it opening into the very small bathroom. Barney sat by the door. He then bashed at the door making it wobble he bashed and bashed until the door had enough momentum to gently ping off the catch. Then he put his paw underneath and gently nudged it open! This is easy at the moment as all of the windows are usually open and the doors open on their own a lot of the time. He then pulled the door open enough to squeeze through, jumped onto the toilet, onto the windowsill and then jumped up onto the open window - only a small one and only open slightly. But he is small and easily squeezed through. Clever little thing!

                  Clever little wotsits aren't they!?

I wouldn't worry about the Cat with the Chooks. Chooks are generally boss over cats, and the cat will know this. If he does get brave, a sharp, peck on the head will put him in his place. Try and get it on film though!
