  • How to avoid passing on unwanted advise?

I have a new allotment neighbour, who clearly hasn't got a clue. I've only ever had old boys as neighbours before now, so this is a new feeling for me.

How do you offer encouragement without being patronising, and trying not to offer advise when having a chit chat.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I think I may just answer this myself, I'm gonna suggest they check out this website and keep my mouth shut.

You'll have to wear sunglasses so he doesn't recognise you from your avatar!

I asked the same question a few weeks back but since then, I've only seen them twice and they aren't that friendly so I leave them be.

You could offer him/her a few spare seedlings and tell them how you're going to grow them on. Really you have to lead by example - if yours grow and their's don't, next year they'll try something different!
Sometimes the imaginary 3rd person comes in useful:-
"Do you know, someone was telling me only the other day that a good way to grow ~~~~ is by ~~~~~~~. Thought I might try it myself this year - what do you think?

And the easiest way to do that is to listen more than you speak

Isn't that why we have two ears and only one mouth? Coat's on and I'm at the door.

When I just glanced at headings I thought you were asking how to avoid passing wind.... I subconsciously do that all day at work...it's painful, both to stomach and nose on the journey home.x
