  • Ho Ho Ho

I've just spent a lovely hour at the lottie with my fav tool - my hoe - my mind always drifts when I'm up there and I was seeing myself as a medieval land tiller/land army girl type and stopped to have a rest and the beer was so welcome....just imagine...one day we won't drink beer all day as we do now ....we will drink water...blimey.....

Client: have you sent me the forms I need to complete
Suzie (work name): they are on way via email.....

Just got back from mine - using the other fave, my trusty spade. I was skimming the paths where a few naughty weeds thought they were settling in for the duration.

Of course, diary is at home and I am at lottie!!! Good job I can just about remember where I am due to be.

The hoe is my favourite too - it's about the only tool I can use without stooping!

Only problem is, I'm rubbish at planting things with enough space for me to use it properly.

I'm like HW and the OH always gives out to me!! He he, it means he has decided he's taking control and doing all the planting of onions and spuds next year - cunning plans sometimes work (better that than admit I'm plain rubbish - eh?!)

I don't have a hoe. I have been considering purchasing one - what are good things to look for? (please bear in mind I will be allowed to spend approximately a fiver)

You mean you haven't started thinking about it yet??!!

Between knitting all around me (everyone's getting scarves this year!!) and trying to get carrots and parsnips in the ground and mind the brussels sprouts and source potato seed, I am very busy on Christmas stuff at the minute!! Apart from anything else, I am DETERMINED to have as much of the Chirstmas Dinner veggies from our own plot (and the majority of them fresh rather than frozen) as is humanly possible!

                      Mine's like this:

Which, by the looks of it is a Dutch Hoe. I kind of push/pull it along. I think the other hoe's require a "chopping" action?

gawd Shirl hun - you must have a hoe, it is the Prada of gardening darlink innit

                        What I use mine for:
running along the top of my concrete (soil) at lottie and chopping off the heads of nasties and watching them curl and die *evil chuckle

What I don't use mine for:
chopping my runner beans in half whilst hoeing in amongst them

I obviously don't have a big enough veggie patch yet then. I hand weed everywhere and it doesn't take long. Might wait a bit before buying a hoe if they are dangerous enough to chop off bean plants - took me long enough to grow the ruddy things!
