    Gardening in Malta

    I've been to Malta for a week (with 6 french people) and although i have no photos ...was amazed by the gardens ...they all have drystone walls...are tucked in to all sorts of places BUT
    the broad beans were in flower
    the grape vines had small buds starting
    there were ripe tomatoes already
    there were reddening strawberries
    the potato plants were about ready to flower

    and this was just what i could see from the buses as we trundled around....

    of course not to mention the lemons and oranges ......however i dont think i would want to garden there as it gets very dry and hot in the summer.

    I would love to try gardening in a country where the challenge is too much heat rather than too much rain.

      I went to Malta in July 2008 for 3 weeks, I love the place, the only thing that spoilt it for me was all the students that were there on language courses. They out numbered everyone else by 10 to 1, and they were soooo rude, no manners what so ever.

        I garden in Italy and it is really different than here. The spring is later, the summer hotter and the growing season shorter!!?

          A friend of ours has just moved to Malta, so we're offered free lodgings should we ever go. I guess March is a good time?

            March would be lovely TS, avoid August. My mum has just returned from Malta after living there for 6 years.........45 degrees in august was just too much.
