    Freeview box not working

    We bought two freeview boxes in asda and neither of them work although they did to start with OH tried everything but no luck. He took them back yesterday for a refund but could only find the receipt for one of them. He got the money back for one but they would not accept the other one as he didnt have the receipt the assistant even said they had had a lot of them returned.
    I thought that if you didnt have the receipt and it was faulty you could have a refund in vouchers or something else to the same value.

    You don't need a receipt by law, just proof of purchase. If you paid by credit card you can show them the item on the bill and I believe that they have to accept it.

      Not sure how he paid usually he pays with his bank card.

        I would go back a say I returned one and the girl said the whole batch was faulty.

          If the goods are not fit for purpose, as advertised then regardless of receipt etc they are to be accepted back!

            Sale of Goods Act 1979.
            Faulty goods must be refunded with a reasonable proof of purchase, not necessarily a till receipt.
            (if I remember correctly ... we had it drummed into us when I was a store manager)

              Are you sure you are in an area that can recieve digital TV signals? There may be nothing wrong with the freeview boxes, you may be in a digital shaddow.,

                We were the first in the country to switch over last month it worked for a while and now they dont,

                  Freeview boxes are very temprimental....Mrs Nog though something was going on with the old lady next door cos i was round there so often setting up her one.

                  quite often they loose the mapping and have to be rescanned.

                    Phoned asda and no way will they give a refund told me to contact the manufactor, phoned the helpline and they have had a high % returned and offered to send me another one in five working days, I asked why would a new one work anybetter she said cos they have sorted the problem, wish we had done this with the other one as it was a recordable one same as this one.
