Default Do you talk a lot?

I'm fairly quiet by nature. I think I can hold forth on things quite well when they interest or engage me but I've never been a 'talking for talking's sake' sort of person and I'm rubbish at making small talk with people I don't know or don't share any interests with. I've had a friend round for coffee this morning though, whilst our little boys played together and heck, can she talk She's lovely but it's as if she'll crumble and turn to dust if there's a single moment of silence! I felt really rather tired after she'd gone

Are you a gabber or the quiet type?

I'm quiet, but I can be more chatty, it depends on who I'm talking to and how I'm feeling.

Carving on lovely old table in Budapest:

"Words are like leaves - Where they most abound
The fruit of truth below is rarely found"

I don't do small talk either, and people who are afraid of silence seem to me to be a bit insecure in themselves - maybe that will offend some people and sorry in advance if it does. I find constant chatter exhausting as well, and I find myself switching off and daydreaming in the middle of it, so I can find some peace... might be rude, but it's my coping mechanism!

I rather enjoy my own space and peace and quiet. however, I do sometimes feel the need for a natter and probably annoy the heck out of people at those times.

Isn't one of the signs of true friendship that you can spend time together and not speak, if you're that close quite often it's the silences that can be important.

Totally take your point JM and ironically I think I may have 'gone on a bit' myself when I've not seen anyone for a little while but my mate works outside the home, has a really big social circle, babysitters so she can go out etc and still she doesn't stop! She's a really lovely person ansd we certainly never suffer from awkward silences, lol, it's just a bit alien to me!

Depends on the level of caffeine in my bloodstream. I like it quiet but can sometimes gabble on about total nonsense for ages after a coffee.

Nicely put Hans Mum. Thats how I feel a lot of the time. I'll ring my mum mose days or one of my sisters, and Steve often has something to say about earache but quite happy to be quiet on my own at other times.

My late MIL had never heard of a "companionable silence". She never, ever stopped talking. Whilst Brian and I were very capable of talking for England we also liked our quiet times, to read a book, do a crossword or just sit in the sun and contemplate the view .

I enjoy a good natter with my friends and family, but we're comfortable enough to sit in silence if there's nothing to say. I have learned the art of small talk, having worked with the public for nigh on 20 years, it's a must! But sometimes I stand there and think, pleeeaaaase go away, I don't want to hear your life story!! Like many folk, I've been told I have 'one of those faces' - you know the one that old biddies can't resist at the bus stop and before you can get a word in edgeways, you know their family history, including the names of everyone of the grandchildren and how much of a worry they are! Hmm, now that I've considered it, maybe I'm more of a listener!!!!

I think I'm quite chatty but not incessant. If I want to say something I say it. However, when people are wittering on about something I have no interest in I don't feel the need to get me motty in. I can cruise in neutral for ages!

I'm quiet by nature but could became chattier depending on the situations (and mood). Sometimes meeting up with an old friend and family can turn me chattier. I do enjoy my peace and quiet time though .

I'm a fairly quite person and find it hard to talk to new people and am cr@p at small talk, but this past year or so I've been trying to be a bit more "sociable" and make the effort.
Having said that, when I,m with Family and friends, espesh my sisters, I'm a noisy moo, and if you get me talking about veg.... well i'll bore the pants off you!

I don't talk a lot .Quite happy to sit for 3-4 hours in silence as is Mrs B but when the need arises we can talk about anything but talking for the sake of talking is not something either of us do.

I'm quite shy with strangers, and dont see the point in too much smalltalk for the sake of it, but when I get going about a favourite topic I can talk for england!
