  • Didn't I do well!

Bought five books off a market stall at 5 for a quid.

Listed them on eBay with a cheap start price, one is on a fiver now and another is on £26.00, both with 6 days to go before auction completion!

if i sold all my books i would probrably be quite well off, there are just some things i can't bring my self to do, and selling my books would be worse than selling my children.

so if anyone wants two bodily sound, well able to dig, if somewhat stroppy teenagers, pm me.

It's a bit of a game with me Bride.........I usually buy books that I would like to read but sometimes just buy them cheapily say 10p or 20p puposely just to move on, hopefully at a profit!
These were bought cheapily not knowing whether they would sell........but I had a hunch, and they arent the type of book I would normally read.
I did buy some that I will read, and once read they have no sentimental appeal to me (apart from a very few) and will be sold.......hopefully.
Books only cost 5p each to list so I listed the five I'd bought for a total of 25p.
It wouldn't have broken my heart if none had sold cos I would have been out £1.25 in total, including the cost of original purchase. As it stands I've made over 3000% profit up til now.........you win a few and loose a few!

I have a 1735 Edition of a dictionary written by this chap Thomas Dyche - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's not in the greatest condition, but no pages are missing. We'd have to be utterly starving before I could bring myself to part with it, though I've seen another couple going for over £200, and they were later ed's. Thing is, both of them went to the US and there's No Way I'd contemplate that!!! It's fascinating reading once you get your head round the s/f thing

That's fantastic Snadger, you must have a good eye.

Mr Sheds has just brought down a binliner full of shirts for me to eBay. I quite enjoy it, but it takes hours of work listing, photographing, packing and posting them.

Oh I don't know, I've been selling books for a number of years now but not many take off....but it's nice when they do.
I remember getting a hold of quite a few Strand and Punch volumes from the 1800's, originally just to read, but depending who were the authors featured in them or the cartoonists/illustrators they would fetch up to £80 to £90 a piece.

Once sold a very small 1st Communion book that was full of 14th century pictorial script for £40 to an Ameican Priest! .............It cost me 5p from a box of rubbish!

Bride I am once again with you, if only in the agreement sense.
I just couldnt sell books. I adore my books and couldnt bear to get rid of one. (have pm'd you re the kids btw, got a fair size plot needs digging over.)
Good work though Snadge, all the best towards your chicken incubator fund.
When I lived with a former Mrs Leponge, we lived in Suffolk and visited a fantastic 3 story old water mill turned antique shop. Being an ex para I have an interest in militaria and saw a book related to the para's. Cost me £6 which I was happy enough with. Got it home and found a handwritten foreward by Bernard Law Montgomery. Would probably fetch a decent sum but its going nowhere.
