  • Can I get a hug?

I'm kinda sad, but a little bit excited.

    I've sold my car.

Sounds daft I know, but I've had that car from new - 5 years of trouble free, fun and sometimes exciting motoring, and now the time has come to pass on that lovely car to someone else.

Didn't quite get what I was hoping for it, but still got more than Parkers' guide gives it.

The dude (young fella) said he's been looking for ages, and has seen "hundreds"*,mine is the best one he's seen - he loved it. Wanted to give me the cash last night but I had to go out.

I know it's daft to become attached, but it's the longest I've ever had a car, it's the first one I ever bought brand new, it was the most powerful and fun to drive, but in six months time I'll have something more precious.

    I'll miss that car...

    *a slight exaggeration I'm sure

Aaah, big hug lad. I've never had a car (keep Death off the Roads!) so I can't really empathise but you are right about next year. You will transfer your affections to someone (nearly wrote something!) that will really love you back.

      Chin up kid!

HW - I feel kinda sad with you, but -
            1. you said it yourself - "the time has come" - far better to have good memories of your car than to keep on to it until it becomes old and troublesome and
            2. You're passing the car on to someone else in good nick; that person is g.tting good value - you can be proud of that and
            3. Most likely in six months you'll hardly have time to remember the car (but when you do, it'll be in a good way).

Best wishes to all of you,
My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

Oh poor love, course you can have a hug, you'll have to pick me up first though - you being so tall 'n all.

I get very attached to cars too. I know some people think they are just a way of getting from a to b but for many of us they mean much more than that.

Still... looking forward, do you have anything in mind to replace it with yet?

and I'm going to have a look at some Saabs at the weekend - although probably won't buy anything until I get back from holiday.

Aw. You'll be fine when you get your lovely new car.

Before baby, we had a beautiful old Saab, which was stolen a few weeks before she was born, but that DH was very attached to. It wouldn't have been suitable for a lickle baby though, and we went for a new Saab (same one you posted about a while back) and it's BRILLIANT!

You won't look back! Or if you do, it'll only be to look at the faces of people going "ooohhh... look at his lovely big new Saab."

Well done on selling the car HeyWayne. I have been threatening Flossie with being sold lately - she keeps backfiring with the damp weather. Madmax found the problem yesterday (kn@ckered HT leads etc) so she might get a reprieve!

I was terrible when I traded in my Corsa for a Coupé, three years ago. It took me a week to pluck up the courage to do it and I felt really sad when I drove away 'abandoning' it. The trader is a friend of OH's and reported that it went to a lovely home, where an old lady keeps it in the garage and takes it shopping once a week. I've seen her at Waitrose a couple of times and got stupidly excited!

Funny thing is, I put a 'Protected by Psychotic B1tch Security' sticker on the number plate and it's still there, with this little old lady driving it around. That made me titter a lot!
