| Naughty piglet!!! This time of year is depressing enough, but I think the poem No by Thomas Hood sums it up perfectly:- No sun - no moon! No morn - no noon No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease, No comfortable feel in any member No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds - NOVEMBER. valmarg |

| Thanks Valmarg. I'm sure my P2 teacher (age 5 and 6) produced that poem and expected us to produce the last line. I think she was disappointed with our ineptitude and we were left with a total sense of failure for failing to see the obvious. But thanks for bringing it up - I'm sure I would get the last line now - what a slow learner. But maybe I deserved that dunces cap !

| Hazel is stuck in haiku gear! Many years ago I read Tolkein's Adventures of Tom Bombadil which was written in iambic pentameter - that most annoying of poetical metres. I found I was thinking in it for days. I tried very hard to read the rest of the book by placing the emphasis AWAY from the metre but it was so distracting I ended up flinging the book against the wall. Only ever done that with one other book - Virgina Woolf's Orlando. However, I digest! I love the No poem Valmarg. I've heard it before but can never commit it to memory. Must try harder!

| Nice one Piglet! The only poem I can remember is by John Hegley:- In Amsterdam.. I saw a tram. At school we used to have to remember & recite quite long poems like 'The Lady Of Shalott/Shallot (she knew her onions!)' but I can't remember a single line now!
