  • Banned members

Just been nosing through who's online and notice several people listed as registering. When clicking on username most have been banned. I assume these are our spammers/cadgers. What I would like to know is if a member is banned can they still log onto the Vine? Must be a fulltime job for mods and admin sorting the wheat from the chaff - well done all of you.

I noticed some people with a status of "Banned" and couldn't understand why I could still read the posts. If they're spammers or cadgers, then banning is the best thing

Totally agree. Hip, Hip, Hooray for our vigilant Mods, they're doing a cracking job

I don't suppose the banned ones bother coming back under those user-names - they just register under another gobble-de-gook name & try again

You don't need to register at all to read the posts and threads. Sometimes when I'm using comp at work I just become a 'Voyeur'!

I think we should all collect weed seeds this coming season and when we get these people gadging, send them a selection to plant!

Most of the banned accounts are computer generated, they fill in the registration but obviously dont or cant complete the link bit as that is designed to stop them dead, and it does exactly what is says on the tin. Hence, they stay in registration never land.

If a person who is banned has posted on the vine, those posts will still be visible but will say "banned" under their name.

I am unable to tell you what a banned member can see as if I banned myself, I wouldnt be able to get back in?

PW - Could you not register under a different name & then ban that name & see what happens?

Happybunny a cadger is someone who always wants something for nothing.

                        Hi Stacey.

The spammers try to get us to click on their websites, and the cadgers try to get us to send seeds [as dave from derry proved] or email addresses so they can send allsorts directly to people's email addresses.

Going round asking for things for free I might go round next door & cadge a cup of sugar or I might cadge of a fellow gardener a few spare seeds.
It is different to borrowing & is usually done as a favour.

I used to be involved in falconry. A cadge was a wooden frame with shoulder straps that the serf or lowly being carried the falcons/hawks around on. He would allow other lowly beings to see the birds for a small fee, hence he would 'cadge' a tip off them.

Nothing to do with the odd people logging on to the forum, but I love knowing where words come from (and a lot do come from falconry - hoodwink is another and Shakespeare used loads of falconry phrases - none of which I can remember (huge sighs of relief from all)).

Incidently, love seeing who else is nosey when I go to check on the members list for members who haven't posted - always the usual suspects there with me on the 'last visited by' section.
