  • Arley Hall School Garden Challenge 2009

    Hello all,

Just had our invite for this year's competition!!! Unfortunately, this year, my good friend - Chris Beardshaw can't make it (he's helping me out with my allotment!) Anyhow, just a word of warning and a request if you don't mind? I will be asking lots of questions again (sorry ) and was wondering (as a few ideas are in the pipeline) if anyone would like to donate colourful flower/veg seeds, something a bit different, not a pack just a few for the kids to try and grow? Bit cheeky I know, but eh, worth a try! Have been looking through a few catalogues and seen some interesting colours of veg etc.

ps - for those who don't know, we won last year Lots of hard work but worth it!

Oh and by the way, we are at the RHS Tatton show as well, so just to warn you now lol

    Thanks all x

Jackie that's really nice, but I don't expect anyone to buy anything, just if they have a couple of seeds spare then we could use them. I was looking in the Suffolk Herbs catalogue and didn't quite realise the amount of different coloured veg you can buy. Saw Orange cauliflowers (sunset), so that's where I got the idea for the original request really. What a lovely person you are!

                    Thanks Janeyo,

I'm thinking of lots of different unusual colours for say veg, eg - sunset caulis etc to show the range of colours, but am also thinking for part of it to be black/white. There are so many different directions and themes that could be used, it's hard to choose really. I'm thinking one simple theme that I can tie in to all areas of the curriculum.

So would you like me to get some Orange cauliflowers then, I believe in supporting good causes, I would rather do it and give to something or someone I sort of know than a complete stranger knocking on my door. ( if that makes sense ) lol

Jackie that is so kind, I just don't want to come across on here asking for ppl to buy seeds for this (if you know what I mean) You are a very kind lady, I'll leave the decision to you.

I never thought for one moment you were asking anyone to buy seeds, I offered and I dont see any problem with that, I have got loads of ordainary seeds as I am sure lots of other grapes have, Perhaps I should have sent you a pm instead, must rememebr next time.
It will be my pleasure to get something for the school. Will pm you when in the post.

I've got lots of sunflower & flower seeds & some veg. seeds, beetroot, radish spring onions & various bits & pieces if you'd like them. Don't think I have anything very colorful veg.wise but I'll have a look. P.M. me your address if you'd like anything, send it me anyway in case I spot anything.

I've got some Perilla Shiso Red if you want them. Mine grew about a foot high and the leaves are a very dark glossy red - yummy too. PM me with your address if you want them. The Victorians apparently used them as summer bedding as well as a salad leaf.
