  • Anyone else have Eczema?

Now, I know you lot are better than both Google and Wiki, so here goes ...

I had it as a kid, but it went. Two years ago it came back. It almost went in the summer, but now flares up if I have a bath, or wear too many layers to keep warm.

Mr. G is fed up with me scratching myself stupid at night because I keep him awake. Though why he snores when he's awake is beyond me, but that's another story LOL

Any other Grapes got the same problem, and any cures other than blimmin steroid cream?

    Cheers all!

It's usually an allergic reaction or stress. Has anything changed in your life/shopping habits??
Sometimes it's easier to 'remove' the cause than treat the skin!
Where are you getting it? I used to have it on my hands from washing so often on the wards.
Had to change all my soaps for clothing and get an ecowashing up lliquid and a dishwasher. Mine's controlled now- but it used to drive me bananas and I'd put it under a boiling tap of water for relief..how stupid was that???

Mine only comes on with the cold weather usually and the dermatologist recommended oatmeal based products (not going to advertise here) and also an oatmeal bath (porridge oats in a large cloth, tied up under the hot tap to infuse the bath). It helps - maybe doesn't cure.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I have really bad eczema, to the point in the past it has gotten so bad I cant move. Unfortunately Im still on the hunt for anything but steroid cream. The only advice I can give is if you have steroid cream of any sorts it has to be ointment as cream is waterbased and drys out the skin. Baths should only be short and additives can help. Always make sure you have some sort of ointment on your face hands etc before you go out in the cold and try not to use too much central heating as this can be very drying aswell.

I wasn't trying to be clever here sbp, just relaying what my dermatologist recommended - a colloidal oatmeal based cream for my face and body lotion, and the oaty bath as well. I find it helps Doesn't get rid, just alleviates the itching.

So why can't you just name the brand?

Ooh, sorry, didn't realise that was what you were driving at - she recommended Aveeno stuff!
And the bath is just ordinary porridge oats!

I have it too, I use trimovate from the doctor, but i also use manuka honey cream from www.thehoneydoctor.com. it is really good and has helped me more than the prescription cream. I have suffered with eczema for years and had so many different creams.

Thankfully I don't have eczema (sounds dreadful, you poor peeps), but I have heard that using goats milk (plus yoghurt and goats cheese) instead of cows milk etc., is a great help.

My daughter had it as a baby and I ran out of her normal stuff and so tried some Kamillosan I had in her nappy bag. It worked a treat - within a week it had pretty much gone. However, hers was only localised, not all over: it's a bit expensive for mass usage.

Kamillosan with Natural Chamomile | Breastfeeding Cream | Nappy Cream | Mothering advice

I also changed to my local shops own brand eco-washing non-bio powder & non smelly conditioner which I still use to this day.

Good luck and I hope you get it to clear soon.

Had it for years and years and years; had some tests in the health food shop and found it was milk, orange juice and alcohol, so gave up all 3 and was better in 2 days.

Didn't eat any dairy for 10 years. Slowly introduced it and haven't had it since. Clear for about 12 years now.

get a water softener, it helps and coarse porridge oats in your bath
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

Yep had it all my life,
I dont use biological washing powder, soap or anything like it on my skin. I wear cotton gloves under rubber gloves to do washing up and housework. Also man made material sets it off. Rubber is one of the worst!!
I also have to be very careful with shampoo, as I have had it on my head.
The worst I can remember was I used to get skin flaking off my ears!!

Have you tried removing anything obvious that touches your skin? Soap etc?

I still get it on the backs of my knees, and hands usually from bathing showering etc. I rub either olive oil or a gentle cream into it, which eases it.

I get it sometimes around my nose and in my ears (indeed yeuch !). I find that a cream made of Aloe Vera and Propolis works very quickly.
