  • Anyone else feel like they're going to get caught out?

Just seems like I have loads of seedlings, but not much in the ground yet...

I have been feeling that way Wayne but I managed to get some of my brassicas in the ground yesterday so feeling better now. Got to prepare my bean trench now and get those in too.

I think it is really still early in the season so you should be fine.

(please give the little one a hug)

May does seem to have crept up on us particularly slowly this year, but is almost gone before I noticed it was actually here!!!
Hasn't helped having to sort new housing/runs for the chooks& chicks...have got really behind!
Also half of my squash haven't germinated,I'll try sowing a few more, but would have preferred to be planting out big plants now,not sowing seeds!
The two things I'm most gutted about though are my broad beans & peas....sowed a load in Noveber...some direct in the ground & some at home in placcie greenhouse...ones at lottie all got eaten & the ones at home got blown away in awinter gale!Nearly everyone on our site now has beans & peas...I'm only just getting flowers!
But on the bright side...it's not quite June,so still time to get on the train!
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

We have loads of small tomato plants- just getting their 2nd pair of true leaves.
Unless we have an Indian summer, I guess they're going to be a bit of a waste!

I'm conscious that Bean being here has made an impact on my available time to get to the plot, but it seems I'm really behind.

In the ground I have potatoes (no flowers of yet), 1st, 2nds and mains. Broad beans (just starting to flower), carrots, peas that are about 6-8 inches high - the bottom half of which is pale yellow, onions - pathetic looking though they are, garlic - most of which have curled or just died (admittedly supermarket bought, but last years were ok).

That's pretty much it for ground plants.

It's a slightly different story in the mini greenhouse...

HW: You'll only have the first year of Bean once....enjoy it. The crops will catch up - have a purge one weekend in June - put plenty of netting [pidgins] and organic slug pellets down and cardboard every bit of ground that isn't covered in plants. Then get back to the Bean.

You'll still have a bountiful harvest in September/October.

My toms are only 4 inch high, so unless we get that Indian summer it will be Green tomato chutney time again for me.

Oh don't worry I spend as much time with him as possible - in fact I'm starting to resent having to come to work even more. Seems the more time I spend with him, the more I want.

Anyway - I'm hoping that with the evenings lengthening, and hopefully weather being a little less inclement, I can get to the plot more frequently than for a couple of hours at the weekends.

Just keen to get stuff in the ground now.

                    Recently sown/Seedling-wise I have:

                    Beetroot
                    Kohl Rabi
5 types of courgette (3 plants each - anyone want some?)
                    Sweetcorn (normal and baby)
                    Leeks (donated to me)
                    Peas (2 types)
                    Cauliflower
                    Cabbage
                    French beans (dwarf and climbing)
                    Runner beans
                    Swiss chard
                    Achocha
                    Chillies (2 types)
                    Squashes/pumpkins (3-4 types)
                    Parsnip
                    Basil (2 types)
                    Dill
                    Parsley
                    Oregano
                    Thyme

Not to mention my carnation, nasturtium, marigolds all grown from seed.

                    Is it home time yet?

(I didn't get to say goodbye this morning as he was asleep when I left - so I'm doubly missing him)

I have loads of things in the ground at the lottie but am fast running out of space but I still have loads to put in, waiting in the wings. What I am going to do with it all I have no idea.

I have one of those small greenhouses filled to the gunnels with all sorts of plants, a couple of deep windowsills full and loads more that I want to plant. I have garlic, broad beans, all sorts of peas, pumpkins, courgettes, french beans, a couple of rows of potatoes, onions and fartichokes and I can't dig a new patch quickly enough to put everything else in arrrrgh

So... (breathe - deep breaths) to answer your question, yes me too

Always seem to end up with more seedlings than I got ground! Also caught up between the desire to rip up lawn and leave some in for DD
