Lol! Just kidding squashysu!

Fed up with trying to balance our cheap hoover on the stairs as I try and clean each one, can anyone recommend a good (reasonably priced) vacuum that does stairs easily? What a sad request!

lol lol ! its true i am a hoover saddo!! lol! - my mate says she is gonna put one in my coffin with me, as i hoover too much.

depends SBP, do you have a dog with hairs, i have a dyson and it was only £140 off of amazon, its just the standard yellow DC07 and its great, i have had, hoover, electrolux etc etc, but found either the Dyson or the littel Henry's to be the best and if you get a Henry tell me, as i have about 30 hoover bags i bought and then my husband got rid of it (another story!).

Henry's are still about £100 though. - hope this helps, love

i got a morphy richards, purple and silver one, cos it matched my hallway, and it lives under the stairs ...... dead good at cleaning the stairs, cos it has an extra long hose, what i didn't think of, when i was reading the blurb about how good it was for asthma,(which i have) was when you come to empty it, it has one of those concertina white filters in the middle, and you have to bash it to get all the guff out of it, so all the dust rises, and i can't breathe for 3 days. tehn you have to wash the filters, though you do get a spare one, but it's such a faff.

so don't get one with a concertina filter.

i did have a cylinder vax for 20 years, which was wonderful till the hose broke, and i thought it was about time i got a new hoover.

not sure if that's much help lol

I'd go with a Dyson every time. we bought a Meile on recommendation a couple of years ago and it was cr@p only lasted about 8 months then had to go and buy another Dyson

I gave up trying to hoover the stairs, I find a old fashioned wooden hand brush works just as well.

I'd buy dyson everytime too - the hose attachment on them will reach from the bottom of the stairs to the top, so no balancing required!

Me too,mine has rubber "bristles" and does an excellent job.

I am mandated (volunteered ) to do the cleaning. Dyson DC07 is great for stairs.. the flexi hose stretches to the top...

If a man can do it, should be simple for the stronger sex...:-)

You'd have to pay me to have a Dyson I hate them!!! "No Loss Of Suction" is because they don't have any to start with!!!! And if you ask any vaccuum repair shop which brand they have to repair most often Dyson tops the list.
I bought a Hoover 'The One' nearly 3 years ago, and wouldn't swap it for anything. I've bought one new set of filters in that time (£20). It has a super long hose which reaches all the way up the stairs with the hoover at the bottom, does hard floors & is great with pet hairs too.

I've got a dyson too! I borrowed my Sis in laws, and by gum! the amount of dog and cat hairs it got were, um, er, amazing! So I've now got one. It has a very long hose thing with various attachments, including the pet hair wotsit, and is brill and gets all the dog and cat hairs up - when I actually get round to doing the cleaning, of course! I got a Vax TurboForce because it was on offer and I had a £50 voucher for the catalogue. Big mistake! It sounds like a Jumbo Jet taking off and seems to spit more dust out than it sucks up. Either we put it together wrong or it's just rubbish. I tend to go with the latter. Never again - when we buy another I might go back to the Dyson range as we were very happy with them.

Dyson for me. I worked for Electrolux for a couple of years and heard that they hated the Dyson because it was so good.

Dysons have plenty of suction, we have a little attachment on ours that fits to the end of the hose that has a little "turbo" brush thingy in it. Great for doing the stairs and hardfloors alike.

The little cylinder vacuum cleaner from Dyson is supposed to be pretty good too.

Separate tests by Which? have proved the Dyson cleaners to be among the most effective vacuums, despite them breaking down more. "It's a real shame [that Dysons break down]", the magazine says, "because its vacs are the only upright models we've found that clean really well."

Would be interesting to see that same report updated.

I have to say, our has been great, and the only repair needed was that the hose came away from the "handle" bit, but the repair cost me nothing more than a couple of squirts of araldite.

my brother had a dyson but was told when he replaced his carpets, for fairly expensive ones by the carpet fitter that dyson is bad for your carpets as it sucks out so much of the carpet fibre as well as the dirt!!! Mum has one and finds it good. I havea Henry its lasted longer than any other i have had!!

The worst vacuum for lifting carpets are Kirby as I remember. Damned good suction, but truly heavy and cumbersome kit!

As opposed to a bald dog?? Now there's an idea. After hoovering yesterday, maybe it's time I considered shaving the cat. Anyone else have to hoover their BED??

with 2 cats and a dog yup ..... i have to hoover everything twice lol, though i think it's easier to just stick them in the dryer. and i do shave the dog

Buy a garden vacuum. That way you mix the pet hair in with the shredded leaves etc and it can all go straight on the compost heap!

Or just simply vacuum the animals.

You may jest, but you can actually buy a vacuum cleaner for your horse. Presumably you wait for them to come back down from the orbit you send them into when you turn it on!
