  • 29th Nov - Buy Nothing Day

    Participate by not participating!

Sat November 29th 2008 is International Buy Nothing Day.

It's a day where you challenge yourself, your family and friends to switch off from shopping and tune into life.

    The rules are simple:

For 24 hours you will detox from consumerism and live without shopping. Anyone can take part provided they spend a day without spending!

This event was founded by Vancouver artist Ted Dave and subsequently promoted by Adbusters magazine.

Snadge, you party pooper. You're supposed to forage from what is already in your cupboards and freezer (to make room for all that Xmas shopping)

xmas shopping?? whats that?? ...... oh yeah sausage rolls and pizza and chocolate gateaux ..... sorted

that's the good thing about not doing xmas ...... i just get normal food, but we eat nothing but junk food on xmas day ....... never cooked a christmas dinner ever (son always goes to his grans with his dad for turkey) ..... only buy pressies for rob and OH ..... and always forget to send cards, so not much point buying them either

so i'm sorted for that day, that's my skint weekend anyway.

I THINK that I have whole days when I don't spend anything (though never, ever used to when I was working), but then I probably order something online, or maybe a coffee if I take baby girl for walk etc. so I will definately do the Buy Nothing day.

I read about this last year and was interested but had fully-charged nesting instinct and was buying anything with the word Baby in it on a daily basis.

Will plan a baking day and make stuff for Chrimbo to go in freezer!

Only on the 29th I regularly have no spend days, thanks to lack of money, if I could managed to bet my chocolate addition I'd spend even less

I only shop about once a week. I say about - sometimes it's 10 days!

The 20% off at M & S doesn't include food, so I'm safe, there! On the 29th I'm taking a friend out to dinner as I didn't make her wedding. Not sure it'll count as a valid excuse to say that it's Spend Nothing Day! Unless I make OH pay, then I spend nothing! hurrah!

Pay day for me is Friday 28th November and for OH is Thursday 27th November. Why are they having sale days now in the middle of the month ? dont they relise most people havent any money left by then, and what they have got is accounted for to last till the end of the month. I heard on the news though that most people are waiting to see if anymore will be knocked off in the run up to christmas. Last year I bought an evening dress and jacket for OH firms christmas dinner and dance, went into the shop the next day and it was reduced so I took it back and got it reduced.
