  • How long does bird seed stay 'fresh'?

    Hello!
I've found some bird seed and peanuts that got buried in the garage, how long does this kind of stuff stay fresh. I tried a peanut, but couldn't really tell if it was stale (I don't like them anyway so it didn't help! hahaha)

Our bird seed is boxed, the garage is dry. Any ideas, or is it just a case of if the birds don't eat it, its probably gone stale?

    thanks
    Jo

I would have thought they would eat anytihing if they were desperate and be grateful. I give the birds stale bread and they eat it so maybe it's the same with nuts?

If they turn their beaks up at it you can chuck it, but give them a chance, They can only say no!

Our birdie visitors have been tucking in merrily to peanuts that have been in the shed for 2 years.

just watch out with the seed- cos there may be weevils in it!!

The birds are happy to eat them- but don't store any of them in your house- cos they'll infest the kitchen or anywhere you might have grain.
