  • Early for spring but .........

Thought I heard a woodpecker yesterday but definately heard one today in the woods close to the house. There's a golden oriele around too.

And driving down to the local town this morning, there were three roe deer just standing on the road, not often we see them out in the open that time of day. They do pass through the garden regularly and a couple have even taken to standing under the low branches of a fir tree in the garden, very close to the kitchen window, when it rains.

The world seems to be turning yet again ...........

Golden-Oriele, now thats a nice bird to have around, you lucky person It's a rare migratory bird in Britain. Winters in tropical Africa.

Your Woodpecker could be getting some practice drumming in! Ready to call for a mate, bit early yet though. Or he's found a tree he likes and is laying claim to it. They nest around May.

The Oriele is around quite a lot, seems to hang around the edge of the woods and seems to be resident here.

The woodpeckers are very early this year but a couple of chums and I also saw a cuckoo a couple of days ago and that's at least a month earlier than we would usually see one.

The buzzards haven't even taken a break this year, the've been around even through the worst of the weather.

Birdwatcher chap in the Times said the birds were singing early this spring.

I know our male blackbird has been singing for about a week now: three am start

We have a pair of great spotted woodpeckers that are regular visitors to our bird table. They are lovely to watch.

My woodpecker's been on the lawn all winter, even in the snow, is that unusual? It's our first year in this house so don't know the norms! The birds have been singing all the way through too, except on the really cold days.
We also have 3 deer that frolic around the fields behind our house. Do they often go around in threes?!
