  • Bill Beilby RIP

I found an old magazine the other day and read an article about the British Black Bee. It mentioned Bill Beilby who was the County Bee Officer, he found a feral colony at Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire which was later identified as a BBB colony. other colonies were also discovered in the area.
I was interested to see if there was any more recent information about Bill and googled an obituary about him on the YBKA website.
Bill got me into beekeeping in the 1970's when my inlaws lived in Harrogate he was so enthusiastic about his bees it rubbed off and I will always be grateful for the time he took with me and my one National hive in his front garden. He had developed his Catenary Hive which he considered to be the best answer to "natural" beekeeping but allowed me to follow tradition and use a National. He gave me the confidence to work my bees and begin a hobby that has kept me enthralled over the years since.
    RIP Bill.
    David

He sounds like a true enthusiast, we need more of them to keep the faith! Good tribute, Highlander.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
