My husband is interested in keeping bees but has absolutely no experience of beekeeping. I looked on the BBKA website and it looked like they once ran "taster session" days but when I emailed them they only offered three-Saturday courses in Jan/Feb. I'm not sure we are that committed yet to the idea but we'd maybe like to get in touch with any beekeepers in the area who might be able to show us the ropes/ get a free apprentice, or if any of the local associations could help we'd be glad to hear too.

Reply to Heated mat for Tom's and chilliesby raryI use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
