  • Will they be ok?

I'm so annoyed with myself. I was a bit late getting my runner beans out into their tub and as I had a quick 5mins I thought I'd do it now. I put them on top of our coal bunker so the chickens didn't get them and started to get thigs ready. One huge gust of wind later and they've fallen off the top of the bunker and every single one has broken The stems are still attached but have completely bent in 2. Do you think they'll still grow and give me a crop? Or do you think the plant will think it's had it's tip pinched out?
Just wondering whether to put out a plea on freecycle for some more plants or whether I might be lucky and salvage the plants. For the time being I have planted them out in their tub but don't want to miss my crop of runners

Not to worry. It seems my chickens have answered my question. In the time it's taken me to write my original post they have been routing through my tub and have wrecked the remainders of my plants! My own fault for not netting them until they had a chance of filling out etc! Off to free cycle I toddle

Pickle, I only sowed runners yesterday; get some more in - they catch up with earlies this time of year anyway.

Wish you were nearer, Pickle - I have 'volunteers' popping up all over the patch where I grew them last year. Sturdier and stronger than my carefully nurtured ones in loo roll innards.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Jeanied, I would have happily taken them off your hands if you had been nearer. Hope you find a home for them

Ours got noshed by rabbits last year, some survived and some we resowed. Still got that many beans the kids were revolting.

I resowed a load of runners and french beans yesterday as we went on hols for 10 nights and the beans got too big inside and tangled with each other, then had to harden off for a week before finally planting at the weekend but many didn't survive the transplant so have sown some more
