  • When to plant jermor

While looking through seed catalogues,I have noted that one catalogue states Jermor should be planted mid January onwards, and an other shows autumn planting, which one is correct
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Don't know if that will help much though.

I had a similar quandary with Hative de Niort shallots recently when I saw one seed company show them as autumn planting and I've always planted in on boxing day.. I've planted 30 in a cold greenhouse as an experiment. I'll let you know next year how they do

I have 20 Jermor planted in the garden now, if I had came across the bit where it said mid January I think I would have waited, as the high rainfall we get here could be a problem when it gets cold

Can you get a cover of some sort over them?

I actually have them in with my onions and covered with enviromesh over blue water pipe hoops and have run a length of polyethene from one end to the other which hopefully will shed some of the water off the bedClick image for larger version

I grow Jermor and always plant the end of October...first time I planted them later and had a very poor return. I know I am almost tropical compared to you rary but quite happy sat in frosted ground.
