They're Bulgarian giant and Musselburgh sown in 40 cell trays, only 4 or 5 seeds to a cell, if that helps.

Maybe you have compacted the soil/compost above them and they are having to force there way through?

They won't go green until they see daylight and photosynthesis kicks in.

I've had spring onions do that - no idea why. It doesn't bode well for their survival though I'm afraid.
