    Some potato advice please

    I have potatoes growing in the poly tunnel and they are growing great, just starting to flower, however it looks like something is eating the leaves, I have checked them and couldn’t find anything. Any ideas my esteemed friends?

    Slugs?? The little black ones. Do out at dusk and you may find them.

      Almost certainly slugs.
      If the damage stays at that level then I wouldn't worry about it.

        I went out one night with a torch & found about ten or twelve tiny snails on one of my Desiree potato plants in the shadier area on my patio,imagine if I didn’t notice,they’d all be big snails,good thing with snails if you smash the shell with a stone they don’t survive & other animals like hedgehogs can eat the dead snail without eating any poison.

              I just went out to check my plants and found that 3 of my 4 fennel seedlings in the growhouse have disappeared. A large snail was lurking on the glass, and is now in the hotbin. The tray containing the plants was balanced on the shelf, which consists of 2 metal bars, and nothing was touching the glass. Crafty is an understatement - they are Olympic standard gymnasts as well!

                Almost certainly slugs.

                Late evening or very early morning are the best time to see them. You should be alright, have a furtle down beside those wooden raised beds, slugs like to hide in there just under or around the surface.
                If they persist and you plan leaving the potatoes in the ground a very long time, it may pay to get some nematodes in there to prevent the tubers from being eaten later on.

                  For some reason, nothing seems to be nibbling on the leaves on my 2nd earlies, which I am going to see to either tomorrow, or the weekend. Maybe it's because mine are growing in sacks. Who knows
